I had the honor of becoming a foster caregiver for Charlie in the summer of 2004. Fostering was something I had wanted to do and now seemed like the right time. I feel I had gotten my own three dogs in order and wanted to contribute to helping other dogs.
Charlie
Charlie is my first foster and she, like many rescued dogs, came with her share of "baggage" and "issues." She is a very shy and submissive dog and it will take my effort and her time, but I know that she will come out of her shell. I can all ready see it happening. She’ll always be shy, but shy dogs can fit in to any family. I have a shy dog and to know him now, you would have never known of the pain and suffering he went through the first few months of his life! I hope that someday, a wonderful person will come along and will want to adopt her, commit to her and love her for the rest of her life.
Charlie will make an excellent pet. She is a little on the small side for a GSD and is very calm and gentle and is fully crate trained and house trained.. She LOVES other dogs and isn't bothered in the least around cats! She's GREAT with small children. My 3 year-old granddaugther has decided she likes Charlie better than Nitro! She told me that "Nitro bugs me and licks me too much!" Charlie would benefit from having another dog in the home to keep her company as well.
I decided that since Charlie is only mine for a while, that I would keep a journal of her first experiences after coming into our home. Who ever is lucky enough to adopt her will be able to see how far this shy submissive dog has grown into becoming the confident dog she longs to be.
