This breed is over 400 years old. Originating in Champagne, France, this breed was used mainly for their fur. Champagnes first appear in America in 1912.
Champagnes are born completely black and as they mature, their fur begin to silver. They are bred to different degrees of silvering. In France they are dark, in Belgium thy are a medium color and in the US thay are a even color of silver.
"d'Argent" is French for silvering.
It is believed all the other d'Argent breeds (Argente Clair, Creme d'Argent, Argente Noir, Argent Saint Hubert) come from the Champagne d'Argent.
Just a note: I perfer the darker Champagnes as they tend to fade when they reach Senior age.
I purchased him from Hillhouse Rabbitry, Medford, Oregon. He was named after "Prince Charming, Cinderalla". (My Disney phase) He is out of the Persinger and Plank lines. He was originally sold as a doe, but oops! soon discovered to be a buck. He is a good breeder. He doesn't like fruits or vegetables, but is content with his pellets and hay.
Odin is from my own breeding, his parents are Holly and Cena. He was named after the Viking King of Gods, Odin.
Zoe came from Hillhouse Rabbitry, Medford, Oregon. She also has the Persinger and Plank lines in her. Zoe is a kind and gentle rabbit, she loves ro be held and have her ears rubbed. She is a dark Champagne and a excellent mother....
Piper is the offspring of Zoe and Prince Charming, She has 2 BOB and a leg to her credit. She weighs in at 11.14lbs. I named her after a character in "Charmed". (Charmed phase) Piper has been described as "gorgeous and well balanced". Piper has her quirks, such as wanting to be served hay first or she will pitch a fit. She is a hay junkie and has no plans to kick the habit.
