About American Lightweight models


Harley-Davidson started with a single-cylinder lightweight in 1903.  It would be several years before they would begin manufacturing larger models.  Eventually, the early lightweight line was scrapped.


In 1948, Harley-Davidson got back into the lightweight market, introducing the S125 model.  The S125 and other models to follow, through 1966, were built in the United States.  Many people tend to refer to this era as the "Hummer" era.  We have found that many people think that all American lightweight models built during this period are Hummers.  Actually, there was only one model (the B model) called the Hummer (see chart below).
