Chaparral Kennel is located in Peoria, Arizona which is in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. There are two Ibizan Hounds and a Sloughi in residence. This site is to showcase the dogs and their accomplishments.

Ibizan Hounds are thought to originate in Egypt as images on the tombs showed pictures of prick eared, lean dogs like the Ibizan Hound. Then merchants took the Ibizan Hound to Spain around Majorca and Ibiza where the farmers use the dogs to hunt rabbits.  The Ibizan Hound is American Kennel Club recognized and is placed in the Hound group. The Ibizan Hound is classified as a sighthound since they hunt by sight but they also use their senses of hearing and smelling.

The Sloughi is also classified as a sighthound that uses all three senses (sight, hearing, and smell) to hunt. The Sloughi is also thought to have originated in Egypt as the images on the tombs also show lop eared, lean dogs like the Sloughi. Today the Sloughi can be found in Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and Libya. The Sloughi is used not only as a hunter for the Berber people, but also as a watchdog as the Sloughi has been breed not to accept the touch of a stranger unless properly introduced by its owner. The Sloughi has not been accepted by the American Kennel Club yet but the breed is in AKC's Foundation Stock Service. The International Kennel Club, the American Rare Breed Association, and the United Kennel Club recognize the Sloughi.
