Men of Valor tries to be a lot of things, but doesn’t really succeed at any of them. It draws its influences from all the various movies on the conflict, but the game fails to build any sense of atmosphere. For example it incorporates the aspect of the principal character writing home like Charlie Sheen in Platoon, but there isn’t a chance of the game achieving a sense of social commentary, so in the end one wonders why they even bothered. During the numerous loading times a series of titbits of information about the Vietnam conflict are displayed, but they don’t convey a sense of interest in history. Instead, I was left rolling my eyes as I waited impatiently for the next level to load.

Some very cool news for those of you that haven't tried this game yet. Valve is releasing a demo today for HL2. Here is the press release.
A free demo of Half-Life 2 will be released later today. Featuring some of the amazing digital actors and physical gameplay that has made Half-Life 2 the leading contender for Game of the Year 2004, the demo takes players through some of the early levels of the game and later transports them to the area of the game known as Ravenholm. According to the BBC an Australian gamer known as Deathifier purchased virtual land inside of MMORPG Project Entropia for $26,500.
The virtual island includes a gigantic abandoned castle and beautiful beaches which are described as ripe for developing beachfront property.
Deathifier will make money from his investment as he is able to tax other gamers who come to his virtual land to hunt or mine for gold.
Whether Deathifier may make money or not I still see this "investment" as rather sad and another reason why I stay away from MMORPGS. I think spending any real money on intangible goods or land in MMORPGs to be wasteful. Hell, if you want to give money away there are many worthy charities. Project Entropia will not live on forever and what happens when the servers go down? What do you have left besides a couple of screenshots and the title of most wasteful nerd? I am just glad I invest my time in first person shooters. You can still make just as many friends and not have to waste money. You can read the full article by visiting the BBC.
