"Beautiful Woven Chain"

Welcome!

Welcome to Rond Álainn!  The first word is Old Irish for "woven chain".  The second word is Irish Gaelic for "beautiful".  Our web address says "by melody" but really, it's chainmaille by Melody and John!  I hope you enjoy the jewelry you see here. This picture shows 4 different weaves (l to r):  Japanese 6-in-1, Helm, variation on Celtic Visions and variation on Helm (we aren't sure if it's a "patented" weave yet!).  I made the first one, my husband made the other 3.

My husband and I handcraft chainmaille necklaces, chokers, earrings, & many other items.  Because we handcraft each item, we don't keep any inventory.  We only sell what we make.  However, we will take custom orders from time to time.  There is a section below dealing with this topic.  Enjoy the site!

Rond Álainn Newsletter July 2008

          Hello!

Site Updates

It seems I make more jewelry than I have room for on my Freewebs site.  I have started a new page at Piczo.com which will showcase any new items I’ve made.  I also was not able to upload my business icon or any of my photos of our table set up at different craft fairs.  I can do that at Piczo, so I did.  Please check it out! http://pianolady5.piczo.com/melodyschainmail?cr=5

New Products!

Viking trade beads...I will be selling these for $15 each.  They are approximately 30” bead strands and are made using a mixture of glass, bone and genuine stone beads.  For more info, see my Piczo jewelry page at the link above.

Veil Bands or Circlets...I posted them at Piczo, too.

Upcoming Events

The next time we will open our shop will be August 29 through September 1, 2008.  We will be attending Gothic Wars XVII, an SCA event held annually in Sweetwater, TX.

In October, our shire (local SCA group) will be hosting an event.  I’ll have my shop open then.  This event will be in San Angelo, TX.  I’ll also be teaching a beginning chainmail jewelry class on that Saturday.  When I find out the actual dates, I’ll post them in an upcoming newsletter.

Santa’s Market will be held in November again this year.  We are looking forward to another chance to open our shop.  This is a craft fair and we have a lot of competition.  It’s held at Goodfellow AFB, TX and local artisans from all over our area flock to it.

In December, our local shire will be doing a demonstration.  We get to show the public what the SCA is all about.  We will be asking folks to bring new toys to donate to the Toys for Tots program.  This happens in downtown San Angelo, TX and it’s a great opportunity to open my shop.  This year, we will be doing a medieval fashion show and we are hoping this will be a new highlight for the demo.

I've started putting some of the items from the site up for auction at Ebay.  Those items will be  highlighted in yellow.  While up for auction, they will not be for sale here.  If they do not sell at auction, the highlight will be removed and the star will remain.  If they do sell, then they will be marked sold and the star will be removed.

Keep checking back for further updates and new items.  We appreciate your business.  Thanks so much!

Custom Orders

I will take 2 custom orders at this time.  Please see the custom order page for details on how this works.  I do have a list of possible materials but you are free to create your own design ideas!  Please check out my Rings and Beads options page to see materials we are willing to work with and the weaves we are able to make.  If you don't see an item on my lists, feel free to ask anyway.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We only accept payments through Paypal.  Simply fill out the order form page with all your information and the piece(s) you would like to purchase and we will send you an invoice with your total and a link to the paypal site.  If your total is not acceptable to you, please email us to cancel your order.

It's important for you to know that each item on my site is handmade by my husband and me.  Each item, even though the design may be similar, will be unique.  Items marked with a star are for sale.  Also, if I have more than one item, I will note it next to the item description.  However, this is rare and we like to make a variety of items in a variety of styles.  IMPORTANT:  We will not accept returns on pierced earrings for hygenic reasons.  Please be very sure the earrings you choose are to your liking.  We want you to be satisfied with your purchase.  All other items are guaranteed for 10 days after the date you sign for your package.  Each customer is responsible for the return shipping.  Once I recieve the item you are returning, I will refund your purchase price (not including shipping costs).  If you are exchanging an item for another item, I will cover the cost to ship the new item back to you, but you as the customer will be responsible to pay for shipping the item to be exchanged back to me.

Also important for customers to note, we do not weld our rings closed.  We work very hard to close them as completely as possible.  However, metals are malleable and may bend from time to time.  We recommend customers treat our jewelry as they would any other specialty jewelry in order to get the most enjoyment out of their purchases.  I also do not recommend wearing our necklaces with any kind of delicate fabric.  They may pull fabrics such as silk, satin, polyester,  sweater fabric, etc.  This note is added so customers will get more enjoyment from the pieces of jewelry they purchase from us.

Note that all photos are taken and resized by us.  We aren't pros!  Photos may not be exact in some ways and some photos come out better than others.  Please note that when you get your piece, it may not be exactly as pictured.  If, when you get your piece, you are not satisfied, you do have the 30 day guarantee as mentioned above.  If you have questions about a pair of earrings, please ask BEFORE purchasing because you will not be able to return them.  Thanks for you business!
