Hello! On behalf of the Coast Guard Spouses' Club, I welcome you to our corner of Eastern North Carolina.
The CGSCEC was founded years ago as a support group for local spouses. Our club is a group of wonderful individuals that share interests and the common threads of our nomadic military life. Moving to a new unit can be a huge undertaking, and getting involved with the CGSC can make this adjustment a much more positive one. It is a wonderful way to make new friends and receive support to help ease your transition into new surroundings.
We provide volunteer support to the Coast Guard community and surrounding areas. Through our fund-raising events, we are able to make a number of cash donations throughout the year to many local organizations that enrich the lives of our military families and outside civilian communities. Our fund-raising activities also enable us to award a yearly scholarship to graduating high school seniors and military spouses. I am pleased to announce that the winner of this year's CGSCEC Scholarship is Tyler Barrington. Tyler will be attending CoA in the Fall.
The CGSC has many ongoing special activities for the varying interests of our members. These, among others, include Bunko, Lunch Bunch, Latte Ladies, and our regularly scheduled Club meetings.. This year's calendar is set to include bowling, ceramics, movie/pizza night, spa night, a self-defense class, and our annual activities: the Christmas Cookie and Ornament Exchange and Death by Chocolate Night. We welcome all suggestions for fun things to do- so if you think of something- please let us know!
Membership is open to all spouses of Active Duty, Retired and Reserve Coast Guardsmen, and also any civilians with an interest in supporting the Coast Guard community. If you would like to see what our Club is like before joining, you are welcome to attend one of our meetings without being a member. I hope you will take time to come and see what we have to offer. Our goal this year is to have fun, make new friends, and be a positive force in our community.
I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact any one of the Board members listed above at cgscec@hotmail.com. Please take a moment and visit our booth at Coast Guard Day on August 4th.
Sincerely,
Kelly M Baxter-Baronas
