Name: Vaugh Kai Raxx
Age: 35

Height: 7'9"
Crimson Blade, Xyzoh Desert, Antares Three
Marital Status: Single

Personal History:
Brought up in the true Nausicaan tradition, Raxx was able to handle many
different types of weapon long before the age of ten. His family lived in
the desert city of Crimson Blade, his father being the city’s
Administrator and Chief of their Clan, well respected throughout the
community. As he grew it quickly became obvious he was going to be a strong
and powerful figure, even for a Nausicaan, and he proved his worth on many
occasions hunting some of the great beasts that roamed the desert and
fighting off challengers to his father’s position in ritual combat. He
and his father, Xaugh, were extremely close, the elder valuing his son’s
battle prowess and proud of the boy’s strength and skill, the younger
looking up at his father with great respect and awe, thinking him the
greatest warrior in the galaxy.
Until, just a short time after his tusking, Raxx’s father told him he
was going to be sent to join Starfleet. The Nausicaan Regime had never been
a part of the Federation, believing the alliance was weak and would crumble
away, however unbeknowest to his compatriots, Xaugh Raxx was actually
somewhat of a visionary for his people who realised the value of alliance
with other races and of diplomacy. He did not dare air these views in most
circles for fear of his life, however he secretly hoped that one day the
Regime would actually take it’s place among the Federation member worlds
for it’s own good, and did whatever he could to improve relations between
the UFP and the Nausicaan government, working mostly in secret. It was for
this reason, then, that when his son reached a good enough age, he used
some of his influence with the Federation Ambassador to the Regime to see
to it that Vaugh got an honorary membership of Starfleet Academy.
The boy was not impressed. Conditioned by his friends and community, he
was a firm believer in Nausicaan superiority and the ultimate failure of
all things diplomatic, and for his father to make such an arrangement felt
to him like a betrayal of everything the Regime stood for. The problem,
however, was that if he refused his father’s will, he would be
challenging the Clan Chieftain’s right to lead, and would therefore be
forced to face him in a fight to the death to prove his own worthiness to
lead in his place. This was something he was not prepared to do...while his
Nausicaan blood was not as steeped in ‘honor at any cost’ like the
Klingons, he did value the reputation of his family and his clan, and he
also still respected his father’s power and skill dearly from his years
of childhood. He did not want to be responsible for the death of his hero
and idol. So he reluctantly agreed to the plan, although it went against
his very nature and psychie, and took the position.
Professional History:
At the Academy Raxx’s attitude problem swiftly became apparent. He did
not like or want to be there, and he made sure that everyone he met knew it
too. However he did show impressive combat and tactical skill, and so with
the assistance of some very long-suffering tutors who helped where they
could, he actually managed to graduate as a Security Ensign.
Even after this, however, the attitude persisted, and for some two years
he was shunted around from starship to starship without promotion, each
crew unable to deal with his blunt, insubordinate personality and
requesting he be transferred elsewhere. This was also a trying time for
Raxx - the fear of failure and his father’s disgrace constantly loomed
over him like a dark cloud, however he simply could not fit in with this
culture that he found both weak and pitiful, lacking any kind of strength
of spirit or will that he could respect. Constantly he looked for some sign
of bold, brave warrior spirit that he could be impressed with and look up
to, and therefore dispel his own notions of the Federation being weak and
puny, however he could find it nowhere. After expulsion from his last ship,
the USS Atlantis in Fleet 3, he was almost resigned to the fact that his
father had indeed made the wrong choice and brought disgrace on their
entire family, almost ready to return home and take on the duel, when he
was approached by a certain shady General in a bar one night on Sirius
Colony. The General was head of Starfleet’s little-known Marine Corps,
and had seen the Nausicaan’s impressive record of strength and power...he
offered Raxx a place among his forces, and as a last ditch attempt to avert
the battle with his father, Raxx agreed.
It was during his further training that the Nausicaan finally realized he
had found the strength and power he was looking for, the warrior spirit he
could respect. Finally hopeful, he threw himself into his training
completely, graduating with flying colors and swiftly advancing up the
ranks. His distaste of the Federation is still strong for using diplomacy
over military tactics and strength, and his fabled awkward attitude is
still alive and well, however at least now he is able to tolerate the
posting thanks to the fact that he knows there is at least some small
element of respectable strength in Starfleet’s organization.
Medical History:
Aside from numerous old battle scars and broken bones from his childhood
and upbringing, Raxx is in fine shape. Notes in his medical log include a
slight problem during his tusking faze, where his tusks had some small
trouble breaking through the skin, and a rather badly broken lower jaw from
a fight as a child, which due to less advanced Nausicaan medical technology
has been repaired with the implantation of a tritanium plate rather than
regeneration of the bone. Neither of these causes him any problems today,
however, and in fact add to his aura of strength and power back home, where
his community is impressed at the level of pain and difficulty he endured
on the grounds that it must have made him into a much greater and tougher
warrior...
