Christina's Weight Loss Journey

Slow but steady wins the race!

Christina's Weight Loss Journey

Welcome to my poor attempt at a website!  Oh well... it's my little place on the web to keep track of my progress.  Hmmm... now what?  A little about me I suppose? Ok well to make it brief, I am 26 years old and currently live in San Jose, CA.  I live with my DBF, my dog Shelby, and my cat Olivia.  I love my life other than the fact that I am overweight.

So how did that all come about? Well... I was 18 and in great shape and one day went to my OBGYN for my annual check-up and my OB decided to send me for a thyroid check up!  It was all downhill from there. Turned out I had an overactive thyroid, they did a radioactive iodine treatment that was supposed to make my thyroid perfect but not with my luck.  The radioactive iodine over shrunk my thyroid gland so then I was underactive. What does underactive mean?  Weight gain (over 100 lbs in one year), hair loss, always tired and basically feeling like poop! Over that year of 100+ lbs they tried a number of different medications, all which made me more ill. So a year of sickness, depression and 120 lbs, I said forget it and refused to try any more medications. That was in 2000. I tried WW in 2002 with a friend, lost 32.8 lbs and then got discouraged when my friend was doubling my loss every week and quit.

In 2006 my sister got married and I was the maid of honor for her wedding.  When the pictures came back from my sisters wedding I knew that I had to do something... I was really overweight and weighed in at a whopping 268 lbs.  I decided that it was time to go see my doctor and get on some proper thyroid medication. I changed my doctor and I gave her one shot to get it right.  She did and with proper thyroid medicine and watching what I ate I lost 40 lbs fairly easy.  I then had a year long plateau where I just couldn't seem to get the scale to budge but easily maintained. In July 2007 I decided to pick up the pace and started going to the gym 45 min a day 5 days a week. Five months later in December all I had lost from all of my hard work over the past five months was 14 lbs. :0(

January 2008 I decided that I could no longer do this on my own so I joined WW.  So here I am....
