Glad you stopped by to visit us here at Checkered Flag Petits. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is a hound developed to hunt game by scent. Furthermore, his physical evolution is directly related to the environment and terrain on the western coast of France-the Vendéen, characterized by thick underbrush, rocks, thorns, and brambles. This difficult terrain demanded a hardy, alert, bold, determined, intelligent hunter with both mental and physical stamina.
About Me
I am an owner, breeder and I handlemy own dogs. Beoming interested in PBGVs in the early 90's, I obtained my first PBGV after graduating from vet tech school. Ariel competed very successfully in agility. Unfortunately her life was cut short when she escaped out of my yard during a snow storm. I will never forget her.
I had met a breeder Jennie Wright(who is sadly no longer with us) several years before, she offered me a puppy, to help my aching heart. A week later we experienced another tragedy, the loss of Dale Earnhardt. In honor of him, I named my new puppy Daytona(Daytona Dale when she is naughty). Thus Checkered Flag Petits was born, joining my love of dogs and of racing.
Through Jennie I met another wonderful dog person Jackie Anderson who is better know for her English Setters of Marksman fame. She has been a great mentor and gave me a super boy Flagg, who you will met in these pages.
