SPONSORED FUN RUN

Harleigh Ryan took part in a sponsored Fun Run starting at the Memorial Park, Coventry on Sunday 29 June.  Harleigh was unable to run due to her leg being in plaster, so she roped in the assistance of dad Phil who galantly pushed her round the 4 1/2 mile course in a pushchair!  Harleigh managed to walk over the finish line and the pair completed the course in 50 minutes!  They managed to raise an amazing £260.50 for the club!  Harleigh and her dad would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who sponsored them, and I'm sure every member of Central Galaxy would like to return the thanks for all their efforts in taking part and raising money for the club!  Thank you Harleigh and Phil.

Bridgnorth Children's Festival August Bank Holiday 2007

Given the appalling weather we have experienced this summer, this event could have been a total 'wash out'.  As it happened, the weather could not have been more perfect, especially on the Saturday when we were all wishing for some clouds to provide shade!

This event was much smaller than the 'Town & Country Show', however it was geared towards children and families, was free to enter and most activities if not free were at a reduced cost.  Thanks to the superb weather and other activities going on around town (including the intriguing 'Severn Project: Sturgeon Moon 2007' - more on that later), the crowds were drawn in.  The event had been well publicised and people enjoyed the displays we put on (3 per day).  Young and old queued to have a go on the trampolines, and a lot of interest was generated.  Let's hope they follow it up!  Lynn did very well with her chocolate fountain and 'straws' game.

The organisers were very impressed with our set-up and the performances put on by the children in the displays.  We all had a great time and it's very likely that we will return next year.

A very BIG 'THANK YOU' to everyone who took part; the children, coaches, parents, etc.  Without your help before, during and after, all this couldn't have gone ahead.

On Saturday night we celebrated with a BBQ, some took the opportunity to go for a paddle in the river, and all hell broke out when Coral started a water fight!  The highlight of the evening (for some anyway) was a walk to Severn Park to see what was going on in the 'Sturgeon Moon' event.  The pathways were lit with braziers and firebowls, and the trees with coloured lights.  A spectacular dramatic performance of the story behind the sturgeon was brought to a climax with light and water displays followed by a fantastic firework display.  The sturgeon then swam away down the river.  Most of us didn't understand what was going on, but the BBC Shropshire web site put it this way: "101 Dalmatians meets Free Willy as the River Inspectors and Sturgeon Hunter entertain people in Bridgnorth 22-25 August.  A giant sturgeon fish is the star of the Severn Project - seemingly a cross between performance art, soap opera, theatre and a firework display.  The River Inspectors will be looking for a safe place to release the sturgeon and allow her to give birth to her young. Meanwhile the Sturgeon Hunter, employed by a rich Polish heiress, will be hoping to steal the fish and its valuable eggs, used in caviar".
