developmentThese pages will develop especially as we pay for a larger space and more pages. Sujects to cover in a homeschool environment are: Religion, Science, Math, English, Language, History, Geography, Health, Motor Skills, Drawing, Music, Play, Love of Learning and ability to teach ones self. There are many ways to organise how you will begin to teach your child or help your child to begin teaching him/her self. The television websites are great starting places for all age groups. They offer quality tools and links. Lesson ideasWe try to encourage the children to teach themselves. I am studying linguistics and have learnt that it was thought that children learnt through listening. It was hoped they would ask questions. As research was conducted (especially with the invention of tape recorders and cameras) it was realised that children do not ask questions. But children use spoken language to learn. Thoughts form and allow children to develop their understanding and knowledge of a subject through investigation. So when a child has an interest we get books and read them and develop interests and understanding of a subject. Our favorite lessons come from the books we gather on a subject from the library. For example: SENSES touch [we felt textures, investigated how animals used touch, how do we use touch for building, eating and organising] taste [colour food and see how taste remains the same, what are the sections of the tongue, chemical reactions and taste] sight [upside down images, colours, whose eyes are those, inventions to see the sky, build the house by description] this link has a picture which is fun for kids to see how the eyes and brain work together. http://www.hhmi.org/senses/a110.html hearing [sound waves, make a candle blow out using sound, games, which direction, where are your ears-animals] smell [perfume in bubbles, guess the smell, what does fresh rain really smell like, can you smell me? whats inside a nose] imagine the possibilities! We find so many experiment books and research books that the kids and I learn so much and we have to stop and move on, but, we do return and go more indepth each time. And the best thing is it is when we are interested so we all want to learn. |
