Javelina, Dove & Quail Hunting in the
Big Bend Region of West Texas

CDP Ranch is a 100 acre, family owned ranch located in Brewster County, Texas. The ranch is less than a mile from the northwest boundary of Big Bend National Park. This ranch, which is tucked into the rugged back country of the Chihuahua Desert is home to herds of Javelina and covies of Scaled Quail. The Javelina, or Collared Peccary as it is officially known, is a native to the warmer regions of the Americas. In the United States, Javelinas are found only in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and then, only in the regions of those states which are along the Mexican border. Javelinas resemble pigs, however, they are only distantly related to feral pigs which originated in Europe. To learn more about Javelina, click on the below listed link:

CDP Ranch is accepting hunting reservations for Javelina and seasonal game animals.
In April, 2005 the ranch was purchased by John & Linda Cataldi. For over two years the ranch had been closed for hunting while we worked to improve the habitat in order to draw a sustainable Javelina and Quail populations. A bird feeder, corn feeder and stock tank were added to help draw wildlife in. As one can tell from our photos, our efforts have been successful.
To see dates and times of when Javelina & Quail come to our feeders, visit our "Feeder Activity" page.
We are members of Quail Unlimited and we have been continuously working to increase the wild quail population on our land. We are proud to say that all of our quail are wild birds. Please click on the following link for more information about Quail Unlimited: http://www.qu.org/
We are now accepting reservations for limited year round Javelina hunts and in-season dove, quail and Mule Deer hunts.
We can offer year round Javelina hunts because, unlike Arizona and New Mexico, there is no closed season for Javelina in Brewster County, Texas!

The terrain is hilly desert with lots of thorns and stickers. Hunters should expect to do a lot of walking during the hunt and it is recommended that they condition themselves prior to the hunt. Daytime temperatures in the summer often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit with little to no shade available. Hunters are cautioned to include some type of portable shade for their campsite. It is also recommended that in order to keep hydrated in this arid region, hunters should plan on bringing a MINIMUM of 1 gallon of water per person per day.
