Production of CATS
Hamburg & Berlin, Germany
Characters you played/understudied
Tumblebrutus, Alonzo, Plato/Macavity, Coricopat.
How long you were in this production?
2 & 1/2 years in total.
What was the best advice given to you?
To observe real cats and mimic their physicality.
What was the worst injury you ever had whilst in CATS?
Snapped my right achilles tendon, twice!
What do you enjoy most about performing? And least?
Clearly telling a story. Injuries.
If you did not work in the theatre what would you like to do?
Manual/physical therapy - nothing beats a good massage!
What advice would you give to future performers?
Always try to keep doing classes throughout your career to keep your body tuned, and to constantly work on improving.
How were you told to play your characters?
Gillian Lynne gave us 3 words to describe each character.
What are the best and worse things about performing in CATS?
Best thing was pushing myself to get through the show at 100% every show. There will never be another show for a dancer that is so challenging as Cats. Worst thing was doing the show in pain with injuries, not so much fun.......plus throwing up in the wings after the Jellicle Ball !!
What has been the most memorable/funniest thing about your time in CATS?
Funniest & probably most memorable thing was crawling on the back of a row of seats top of Act 2 and falling onto 2 old ladies laps accidentally - on my back on their laps with legs and arms flailing, no way to get up.......
