Crochet to Share and have a yarn over the hook
About me.
I learnt to crochet when I was about 7, by watching a fellow student who was making up a basic granny square blanket. The stitches were c and tr. My Mum sent me around to her friends place to learn a bit more, she showed me a couple of ways to shell. So for many years I only knew how to c,dc and tr. In the mean time my Mum showed me how to knit and purl, I found reading the knitting patterns a breeze. I knitted for all of my children and I must say I was a lovely knitter. How ever, I found knitting so slow and I began to leave many projects unfinished.
The only time I picked up a crochet hook was to quickly crochet up a scarf or a granny square blanket because that was all I knew and I could not read a crochet pattern as I did not know or understand the stitches.
Now this is 38 years put in a nut shell.
Just recently my Mother in law passed away leaving me all of her wool, needles and zillions of patterns, mostly knitting. One of my grand daughters is into dressing her dolls and I thought I might make her a few dolls clothes. Upon going through the patterns I received, I came across some lovely crochet patterns for doll clothes.
I still could not read a crochet pattern, so about 3 months ago now, I went on line (I love my computer ) and I learnt how to crochet! It was almost a breeze, very soon I was crocheting away in my rocker in front of the TV.
But then I wanted to broaden my knowledge and make more things, like hats, scarves, mittens or any thing I liked!
So once again I did. I was lucky enough to read a comment on a web site somewhere that made the statement of how sizing was different from one country to another, (funny I made an adults hat that fits a new born) so I researched the conversions of hook sizes from USA to AUS, a little later I learnt the difference in wool guage.
How ever it has been fun and I have made many items so far. Thanks to all the sites out there that supply FREE PATTERNS, because they keep me going.
So this is why I have built a web site, to contribute and help.
Enjoy. Cat.
