The Cat Project

Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program

7/08 Update:

Unfortunately, The Cat Project has had to cut back on our low cost spay/neuter program. We apologize for not being able to help in this area anymore.

The Cat Project offers a low cost spay-neuter program to low income families and to caretakers of feral colonies.  Sterilization has many benefits.  Look at this brochure for more details on the benefits of sterilization.  We are not a high volume clinic; call for more details and scheduling information.

Spay (females): $45

Neuter (males) $25

Pricing includes a rabies vaccine and a distemper vaccine. They are treated with Revolution for fleas, intestinal parasites, ear mites, and heartworm prevention. If tapeworms are present, they will receive Droncit. Ear mites and ear infections are treated and mats are shaved as needed. We send home antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory that can be mixed with food if the person caring for the cat feels medication can be given. Feral cats that appear too ill, unkempt, or unable to care for themselves are not released; they will remain with a volunteer foster home.

The Cat Project offers assistance with the trapping and transportation of feral cats.  We loan out live traps (see our live trap agreement here), educate you on how to successfully live trap all cats in the colony, and will transport the cats in the live traps to our facility to spay/neuter them.  We return the cats in carriers to be released into their normal habitat, and require that carriers be returned to us.

Dr. Bischof volunteers her time to perform all of these surgeries. All assistants for the surgery days are also volunteering their time.

We would be happy to hear from any veterinarians or assistants who would be willing to volunteer any time to assist in our low cost spay/neuter program.  Call Dr. Bischof at 517-675-3133 for more information.
