THE CATTERY

The old fence was taken down and the site cleared to dig trencehes for the foundations. The cattery backs on to an old railway embankment so the site is quiet tranquil and peaceful. Just what cats need. The building work took longer than expected, due to the terrible wether we had in 2008. We had to carry all the building materials by hand from the front garden into the back garden, and as there is no way into the back garden except through the house this was by no means an easy task!

We also had four projects on the go at the same time, the cattery,a new bunny enclosure for my thirteen rabbits, a new aviary for some Australian finches, and a raised fish pond for the pond fish which we had moved from this area to start work.  Both the aviary and the rabbit enclosure will give the cats hours of entertainment watching the bunnies and the birds, going about thier daily activities.

This was the view as you entered the cattery area. The old steps have now been taken out and replaced with new steps. The vegitation and plants have been cut back and the arch moved to come over the complete steps. You can see this in the photographs below. Once the plants have regrown it should make rather an impressive entrance to the Cattery, aviary and bunny enclosure. The whole of the area has been supplied with electrics for lighting heating and a security system including CCTV. So secuiity is paramount. There will be someone on site 24/7 anyway. The wall is 6 foot high leading on to the embankment and the whole area is roofed, so there is only one entry point from the front as you see it now.

Here you can see my son giving a helping hand with these all important building works! The wall to the  rabbit enclosure has gone up on the far right hand side, and the doorway into the enclosure has been contructed. The arch talked about above will now go over the whole of this area. You can see the new steps in the pictures below.
