Club Details & Castrol Social FC History

Home ground: Castrol Sports and Social Club, Chester Road, Whitby, Ellesmere Port

The name Castrol appeared in January 1996, but origins do go back a bit further.. During 1981/82 a Burmah Castrol side had two seasons in the West Cheshire League Division Two, these included a fourth place finish and a Wirral Amateur Cup win. The team 'Rivacre Rossfield' came about when Ex Division Two champions Rivacre Sports merged with Rossfield United, a team who had previously appeared in the West Cheshire League way back in the Sixties. A move of ground later came about notably to the Castrol Sports ground, and therefore the change of name to Castrol became inevitable, for the 1995/96 season. Castrol finished in fifth spot in that initial season and reached the semi-finals of the West Cheshire Bowl. They built on this the following season and reached the Centenary Final of the Wirral Amateur cup, narrowly losing out to Mallaby.

Subsequent seasons saw Castrol consolidating their position in Division Two and in the 2001/02 season they eventually gained promotion finishing in second place and also winning the Wirral Amateur cup. Fortunes have see-sawed a bit since, with nothing much to shout about apart from an appearance in the Wirral Senior Cup final in 2004/05.

2006/07 saw Castrol Social flirt with relegation for much of the season but a fine run of form in the latter stages of season saw Castrol avoid relegation and finish up in 11th place with a total of 38pts.

2007/08 finally brought some more silverware, as they were victorious winners of the Pyke Cup, for the first time in their history, beating a high flying Runcorn Town FC, 2-0 in the final.
