The Tests

Information on Theory and Practical Tests

To obtain a full licence to drive a car you need to pass two different tests. There is a theory test which you have to pass before you can take your practical test. You cannot take the tests until you are 17 years of age and have received your provisional driving licence.

You cannot apply for your practical driving test until you have passed your theory test. You will be asked to give your theory test certificate number when booking your practical test.

Before the test begins the examiner will ask you to get yourself comfortable in the car and will explain briefly what the test involves. After that he or she will ask you to start the engine and off you go!
At the end of the test the examiner will tell you if you have passed or failed. You would fail if you made 6 small mistakes,or any major faults.

When you have passed both the theory and practicle test you have successfully became the red P plater and in 8 months time you will go onto the green P plater but on them plates they have a certain speed limit that you must attend and it is lower than long  experienced drivers.
