Summary
Scouting Builds Tomorrows Leaders
Scouts learn new things, discovering and mastering new skills, gaining self-confidence, and developing strong friendships. In the often confusing and troubling world in which today's young men live, Scouting is even more important as a havena place where a young man can find acceptance and support from friends when he needs it.
Scouting Provides Adventure
Scouting helps fulfill a youth's desire for adventure and allows him to use his vivid imagination while taking part in skits, games, field trips, service projects, outdoor activities, and others. There is adventure in exploring the outdoors, learning about nature, and gaining a greater appreciation for our beautiful world.
Scouting Helps Develop Interests and Skills
Scouts learn many useful things; they develop ability and dexterity, learn to use tools and to follow directions. Rank Advancements and Merit Badges encourage them to qualify in subjects such as conservation, safety, physical fitness, community awareness, sports, religious activities, and others. These interests may become a hobby or even a career later in life.
Scouting Teaches Youth to '`Reach Out"
Scouting provides opportunities for youth to "reach out" into a wider community while still keeping a link with more secure foundations such as the home, religious organization, and school. It helps them become full members of their communities as they take part in service projects and other community-related activities. They get to know their community better and recognize the importance of good citizenship.
Scouting Teaches Responsibility
Scouting teaches scouts to "earn their own way" through participation in fundraisers and paying their monthly dues. This responsibility also translates into accomplishment as they see the "fruits of their labor" when camping or receiving rank advancement or earning a merit badge.
Scouting Provides a Year-Round Program
Scout Troops are rechartered every year and members are registered for a year at a time. We meet from September through July taking time in August for special events and planning the new year. This means that they are entitled to a full program of fun and activities. July is time for summer camp. This is a week long retreat where many opportunities exist including outdoors activities. Since everyone has more free time during the summer, it is a great time for Scouting.
