Cougars Season Preview 2007- 2008 In addition to these players, the Cougars have added six freshmen who could provide some much needed depth to the program. They are: Willie Ponder, Jack Mulowayi, Jorrel Inman, Jeremy Mahaffey, Fred Clyde, and Cinquez Justin. Along with this talented group of players, the Cougars have also upgraded their already demanding schedule to further gain exposure for their school and give their athletes an opportunity to play against some major competition. This season, Carver has 3 NCAA Division 1 opponents on their road schedule: Savannah St(Nov 9th), Florida A&M(Nov 12th) and Presbyterian College(Feb 16th). The Cougars also are on the road against 13 NCAA Div 2 opponents, as well as, 4 NAIA Division 1 schools. The Cougars also host some very top-notch teams that will make their way to the Cougar den here in Atlanta. They have scheduled home games versus the likes of Loyola Univ-New Orleans, Central State University(Ohio), Lee University(Tenn), and local NAIA Division 1 powerhouse, Southern Poly Tech University. In addition, they host games against 3 fellow NCCAA conference members in Emmanuel College, Tennessee Temple, and North Greenville Univ. The highlight of the upcoming season is, unquestionably, a marquee matchup versus Southeastern Bible College of Birmingham, Ala. which is to be held in Philips Arena as part of the M.L. King Day Classic – Doubleheader with the Atlanta Hawks on Jan 21, 2008 at 5pm. The Cougars will take the court after the 2pm Atlanta vs Portland game concludes and will display college basketball in its purest form. Coach Carter just smiles when he is asked about this Cougar team; “This team is the most talented team that Carver has ever had. We expect to be competitive every night versus the caliber of teams we have scheduled. This is truly God’s work in progress by providing these young men a chance to play for his honor and glory........” |
