On Saturday 29th September a Dance was held in Carrick Town Hall by the Red Hand & Thistle RSC, Carrickfergus, to commemorate the 95th signing of the Ulster Covenant ( 28th September 1912 ).
Sadly, in this day and age, deeds like this by our forebearers go unmentioned and dont fit well into todays all embracing politically correct world. We in the Red Hand and Thistle RSC will continue to perpetuate the memory of our ancestors, it was rather poignant that the Dance was held in one of the venues where Men and Women from from the district of Carrickfergus flocked in their droves to show their steadfast will in their opposition to Home Rule. For this, we as Unionists of whatever ilk, have a debt of gratitude that surely time can never erase!

To compliment the Dance, an exhibition on the Battle Of The Somme was also staged in conjuction with Trench Talks ( Billy and Andy), authentic artefacts and poems from the Battle were displayed and expertly given explanation by an excellent lecture.

Music and food followed and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
Many thanks to Alderman David Hilditch MLA, Councillors and Staff of Carrickfergus Borough Council, Mr Michael Deignan and staff from The Royal Oak, Donna and Stevie of Castle Catering, Linda Patterson from the Windrose, to all those who helped in one way or another on the Night, Friends from Lol 553, Lol 787 and RBP 17, and finally to all those who attended, even the good folk from Australia who will return home with fond memories!
