THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!
Thanks to ALL who worked on the campaign to elect Will Murray as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa Centre.

While we did not win in the end, we came a VERY respectable second finish, and dramatically increased our share of the vote from the last election.

Be it canvassing, talking to voters, having a blast at our candidate pub night and more -- thanks for everything!

As the semester draws to a close, good luck on exams -- and we'll see you next semester!

CAMPUS UNITED WINS!
17 September 2007

To all those who said that solidarity meant nothing, that support staff were turning down a fair deal, that students agreed with the bullying tactics of administration at the bargaining table with CUPE 2424, it should be said

THAT A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED!!!

Strikes are not fun -- the are dis-spiriting, and should be avoided whenever possible.  The CAMPUS UNITED coalition was instrumental in forcing administration to listen to reason.

Now, students, staff and faculty have a campus that works.

THE CAMPUS, UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE: "NPD" THE NATIONAL ALTERNATIVE TO THE CONSERVATIVES
17 September 2007

Tonight, the  Nouveau Parti Démocratique has trouced the Liberals in their former stronghold of Outremont!

With close to fifty percent of the vote in the riding, the NDP has captured territory that has been Liberal for almost all of the last seventy years!

Former provincial Liberal cabinet minister, Thomas Mulcair, is now the 30th NPD member of Parliament...and only the second New Democrat to win a seat in Quebec at the federal level in all of the NPD's history!

CONGRATULATIONS TO JACK LAYTON AND "LE NPD" TEAM!

A strong pro-environment, pro-sustainability, and anti-war message has resonated with the electorate.

Also, the NPD also beat the Liberals for third place in St. Hyacinthe-Bagot!

All of which goes to prove: not only are the Liberals in trouble, but the party that can stop the Harper Conservatives is the NPD!

Orientation Fair Message
SEPTEMBER 5, 2007

HI THERE!

Welcome to Carleton!

We really wish we could be here today at this Orientation Fair alongside our provincial candidate, Will Murray, but we feel that since the University has not negotiated in good faith with the members of CUPE 2424 who are now on strike, that we need to support these staff that work so hard to give us a great learning experience here at Carleton.

To find out more about what we're up to throughout the year, be sure to e-mail us at

carletonndp@yahoo.ca

and check out our website at

Thanks for understanding, and we'll see you soon!

ASK JACK Event a Huge Success!!

The event attracted hundreds of students -- and the gathering afterwards in Mike's Place was a lot of fun too :)

ELECTION 2006: PAUL DEWAR IS THE NEW MP FOR OTTAWA CENTRE!
Thanks to ALL THE CARLETON VOLUNTEERS who helped elect PAUL DEWAR as the NEXT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR OTTAWA CENTRE! In what was truly a community-wide effort of over a thousand volunteers (many of them from Carleton), we beat our main challenger, Richard Mahoney, by over 5000 votes. From canvassing, to introducing students to Paul (including both times he visited campus before the election!), to bringing new people into the fold, we all came together to make Carleton strong NDP territory!

End of the Year -- 2004-2005

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who made the Carleton NDP such a success this year.  Here is a quick overview of just some of the things we did:

1) Anti-BMD Event

This event, with Jack Layton and Debbie Grisdale of Physicians for Global Survival, made it clear why Canada should not participate in George Bush's Star Wars/Ballistic Missile Defence program.  Over 350 people came -- and we got the word out.  Remember, Paul Martin came very close to signing on, and it was pressure from the NDP, other coalition groups, and Canadians from coast to coast who won this battle (fow now).

2) Lie Down on the Hill for Peace

Here, students from Carleton and U of O's NDP clubs spelled "NO BMD" with their bodies on Parliament Hill.  The event garnered a lot of media attention.

3) American Election Night

We collectively grieved the win of George W. Bush over beer at Mike's Place.

4) CPAC Proportional Representation Debate

CPAC filmed a discussion on Proportional Representation among campus New Democrats that will be part of a documentary on Proportional Representation.  While they're a bit late in putting together the final touches, I'll let you all know when it's ready to air!

5) Broadbent Budget Event

Recently, our fantastic MP, Ed Broadbent, came out to talk about the Liberal Budget Betrayal, from yet another corporate tax cut to the fact that post-secondary students got shafted yet again.  We got great coverage in the Charlatan.

6) Tabling

If there was a political fair, we were there!  Over 100 people joined our e-mail this year, and a lot of them connected with us at the Clubs and Societies Days, among others.

7) Party events

Some Carleton students went to the Ontario New Democratic Youth Convention in Toronto, as well as the Ontario NDP Bienniel Convention in Hamilton.  More recently, some members attending a Campaign School to get the low down on how to run awesome election campaigns!

and much, much more!!!

Phew!  What a year!  It's not hard to see why the Carleton NDP is the most active political club on campus...

Carleton University New Democrats

Layton Event on Star Wars a MAJOR SUCCESS!!!

On Tuesday, September 28th Carleton University New Democrats welcomed NDP Leader Jack Layton and Debbie Grisdale of Physicians for Global Survival. They gave a talk,

WHAT STAR WARS/MISSILE DEFENCE MEANS TO CANADA.

We had a FANTASTIC turn-out of over 300 people -- and we're not even in an election year! Thanks to all who helped spread the word...we're one step closer to making sure that Canada does not George W. Bush's plan to weaponize space. We also had great media coverage -- and Paul Martin and the Liberals can't help but address the issue.

WE WON: ED BROADBENT IS NOW THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR OTTAWA CENTRE!!!

Together, we did it! We won a VERY hard-faught, nationally-watched race. For the first time in 16 years, Ottawa Centre is now New Democrat territory. To all of you who helped out, be it attending an event on campus, canvassing polls, or telling your friends why they should vote for Ed, a big, big thanks!

As for the election itself, it is a bitterwsweet result. While we did not get as many seats as we thought we would, we did manage to dramatically increase our popular vote -- by 97%! At long last, momentum is with us...

As you may have heard, we may be having another election in less than two years. It is all a guessing game for now, so in the meantime, let's CELEBRATE OUR VICTORY!!!!

With that, have a very restful remainder of summer, and we'll see you back in the Fall -- bigger and better than ever before!

Layton, Broadbent Event a HUGE Success!

Over 400 people come out to hear Jack Layton and Ed Broadbent speak!

On March 15th at Roosters Coffeehouse, over 400 students showed up to hear Ottawa Centre NDP candidate Ed Broadbent and Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton speak about

Engaging Students in the Politics of a New Canada

So many people came, in fact, that we had people lining up outside, listening in! The NDP, it is clear, really is a party on the move...

THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME, TO ALL WHO HELPED OUT...WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!

Broadbent Pub Night a Resounding Success!

More and more students get on the Broadbent Bandwagon!

The joint Carleton NDP and University of Ottawa pub night on February 11th at the Royal Oak Pub on King Edward and Laurier went extremely well, with over 100 students coming out to meet Ed and members of the NDP Caucus

More and more students are signing on with Ed...to get involved with the campaign and to get in on the online discussion forums, check out
