Family Literacy "Dialogue":on our experimental "campus"
Cariblink-sister site- Family Lit. page
How can we set up Family Literacy programmes in Trinidad and Tobago?
*How should such a programme be structured?
*What should it consist of? Leave ideas in our dialogue--link above or in the FORUM.
*We will will list some useful resources for teaching Early Literacy skills to young children:-- good for pre-school teachers and parents--The aim is to present some approaches and materials that can be easily adapted to Caribbean needs.
Note the EMPHASIS that is placed on "a good Literacy foundation" for children. We will do well in Trinidad and Tobago if put a similar scheme/s in place to assist pre-school and early primary teachers and parents. Click on the links below to visit the sites.
**Some of these are professional sources which use very technical language. A group leader should be able to select from them carefully and structure the points for discussion:
1. *The Educational Reform Network (Nevada Reading First): very informative and thorough --an entire library of categorized resources that explains the field
2. Another example of organized categories of materials that are constantly updated and readily available: from the Puget Sound Education Service District
3. A collection of published materials about "fostering emerging Literacy skills" from NCCIC (USA)
4. The International Children's Digital Library (indispensable)
5. Please read this page from the National Literacy Trust (U K):
6. *Prekorner"
7. Early Literacy Resources, Sask/ca.
8. Association for Literacy from Infancy--a key resource like the UNESCO PreLiteracy Skills in Families site
