What is a Community First Responders Scheme?

A Community First Response (CFR) scheme is a nationwide initiative that provides fast Emergency Medical Response to rural areas.  All schemes work alongside local ambulance service's and are notified in the same way of medical emergencies in their area.  The responders will provide emergency support until the arrival of the ambulance service.

The Madeley team is made up of 18 local volunteers, and under the control of the Staffordshire Ambulance Service

Why do we need your help?
The establishment and operation of a CFR Scheme is a major Undertaking, a significant responsibility, and involves a great deal of work for the co-coordinator and team members.

The good news is for Madeley we have a great team and committee in place. A Scheme can only be successful if it is supported by the community that it serves and has enough dedicated volunteers to guarantee an excellent service.

Although First Responders respond to 999 calls BEFORE the ambulance service they are not financed by the NHS. A CFR Scheme is completely voluntary and self financing.  All the life saving equipment, the response vehicle and day to day running costs has to be purchased  with funds raised from the local community.
