Well, I completely forgot this blog was here, as you can probably tell since it's been over a year since I posted on it! Rest assured CARE Package is still ongoing, and we are always taking donations and presenting them to area hospitals in Robby's memory.
I started a new blog at http://smellyann.typepad.com so people could check in and follow our story with us. It's not just about the charity, but I often post about the things I make and receive for it, along with updates on our family and how we are doing in the years since Robby's death.
Please visit us and comment when you find us!
Thanks,
Melanie
So I guess I haven't posted in a long time. That should not be taken to mean I haven't been busy knitting and crocheting away! I've just last week donated about 36 packages to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters here in Norfolk, Virginia. Not everything was made by me, of course, so I appreciate all the wonderful donations I received. Thank you!
Right now I am working on our latest fundraiser: felted bags. Here are the two I have made so far:
So make sure to inquire about them if you're interested! Happy Holidays!
New mail! Sharon in TX sent two of the sweetest blankets yesterday:
I love the crocheted edge around the purchased fabric, and since I have some similar fabric that has been sitting in a bin for a long time, I just might try and do the same thing myself! Thanks so much, Sharon, I love them - and they have already been matched up with other items! Perfect.
I have been hard at work on Sophia's First Year scrapbook, which has now spread over into a second book and might make it into a third! I like the way it's turning out and have been enjoying the diversion, but now I'm eager to get back to work. To start, I've been crocheting with the extra yarn from the last contest bag to make myself something for once! Here's my little bit of froo-froo:
Then, to tackle the administrative duties of matching into layettes all of the wonderful donations I've received over the past month, Rob and I sat down with Capote and I, Robot last night while I brought down three bins full of baby items. For nearly four hours, I stacked blankets here, hats there, booties up there and sweaters, shirts and gowns in the middle, painstakingly selecting which ones would go best together according to colors and sizes.
With the help of all the donations, I was able to make 15 complete sets and about two dozen more that just need one or two more things made to complete them! I am so appreciative of everyone's hard work and generosity. So, that's what I'll be tackling next, and finding the next hospital to which to donate them. I also realized I need to set up a form on this site through which to request a Package. Can't believe it hadn't occurred to me yet, but hopefully we'll be able to reach many more parents in need this way - and more directly. If you know of parents in need, you can also contact us on their behalf. Thanks!
