What would the money be used for?
First and foremost the money would be used to help prevent my father from ever being placed under the care of anyone that would abuse him during the final years (possibly months or days) of his life.
Depending upon the amount the money would be used for any of the following -
- Help to pay the monthly expenses. My parents provide me with a room in their home and meals for my help, but they live on a very fixed income and my inability to contribute to the bills is sorely felt.
- Pay for medical and dental work for myself. I have been unable to afford to have a regular medical exam and have for years been unable to afford dental care.
- Purchase new eyeglasses for myself and my mother. Neither of us has had new glasses in over eight years and are going to be unable to pass the exams for renewing our driver's liscences without new glasses.
- Replace the failing heater in our home. The heating system in our house is the kind that heats by use of hot water, and the radiator has now developed a leak. This is going to be a costly but neccessary expense as in the area we live the tempatures can reach -60 F (yes, minus sixty degrees) in the winter.
- Other similar expenses.....

What the money would not be used for -
Any money collected would *NOT* be used for --
- Expensive clothing. Both my mother and I have for many years (preceding my father's stroke) bought our clothing from second hand stores. What we must buy new (undergarments etc) we buy from Wal-Mart. I cringe if I must pay over $15 for a pair of jeans and never pay over $2 for even the nicest of shirts.
- Exorbitant credit card debt. I am not going to say that my mom and I do not have massive credit card debts in the wake of my father's health problems, we do. However, I am not seeking money to pay off the credit cards, we are working to get those under control and paid off. There are much more important things at the moment we need money for - such as food.
- Trips to Europe. We are not interested in using any of the money to take trips to Europe or Hawaii or anywhere. When we do go somewhere it is a weekend drive down to the peninsula and back with a stay in a motel room that averages maybe $50 to $100 for the night. We have only been on two such trips in the past 5 years and both were gifts to my parents from my sister.
