The Employment and Training Administration Recentlty recognized Career Start as one of the Top 3 Youth programs in the country! The Honorable Mention Award was accepted by Youth Services Supervisor, Herbrena Godfrey in Kasas City, Missouri at the Recognition of Excellence Awards in July 2007.
CareerStart is a program designed to offer residents of St. James Parish ages 14 to 21 who are out of school, out of work and have either dropped out of or have graduated high school, or obtained a GED educational and occupational opportunities.
CareerStart affords it's participants access to local educational/occupational resources and opportunities as well as offering them a paid part-time work-study position. Upon completion of the program participants will be equipped to begin a career path as a semi-skilled or skilled experienced worker. Participants will also be taught leadership skills and be required to actively participate in service and volunteerism.
CareerStart also provides year-round support and learning/growth opportunities with the help of our elite group of mentors.
St. James Parish Career Start will:
*Provide assistance in achieving academic and employment success, effective and comprehensive activities: improving educational and skill competencies and connections to employers.
*Ensure on-going mentoring opportunities with adults
*Provide opportunities for training
*Provide supportive services
*Provide incentives for recognition and achievement
*Provide activities related to leadership development, decision-making, citizenship and community service
