My Philosophy
My life and my counselling attitudes are definately influenced by my spirituality. I believe that emotional and physical health are influenced powerfully by a persons' spirituality. My spiritual beliefs inspire me to "love my neighbour." Love means many things to many people. In this context, to "love my neighbour" means having an attitude of compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy towards my clients. I do not inflict my views on to others because that would be disrespectful. My faith in God enables me to have faith in my own potential and in the potential of my clients to grow in truth and freedom.
Background
I grew up in New Zealand but have lived much of my life in Brisbane, Australia. I have been married to my second husband for two years and have two sons, a stepson and stepdaughter. We live in rural area called Kerepehi which is about an hour south of Auckland. I lost my biological father and my step father to Cancer. I was priviledged to help my mother and my sister to nurse my stepfather at home for six months until he passed on. At that stage I had begun training to be a Primary school teacher but I changed to a Counselling degree when I realised that was where my heart truly was. I continued studying a further three years to complete my counselling degree.
Qualifications:
I graduated from Bethlehem Institute Tauranga where I learned Person centered therapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy and Narrative therapy. My counselling practice and expertise are constantly developing and although my style is eclectic I am particularly passionate about the Narrative approach. This approach emphasises the potential of the client by building on their strengths and in this way helps to empower them.
