On Saturday the 14th  Jill, lynn and Carol did some recon work by checking out Dunmore Acres as a

venue for the 30th Reunion

Lynn's report...

Carol, Karen, Jill & I visited Dunmore Acres (www.dunmoreacres.net) on Saturday.  We all think this place would be perfect (Cabin 19 meets the 21st century)!

Highlights:

-          9 rustic cabins (all with indoor plumbing J) with 1-3 bedrooms each, eat-in kitchens and sitting areas.

-          A lovely lodge building that would serve well should outdoor activities be curtailed by the weather. Small kitchen, area for tables/chairs for indoor group dining and a separate room with a nice stone fireplace, reading area, ping pong table – would be a great space as well for board games, cards, etc.

-          The cabins and lodge surround a basketball court, swimming pool, horseshoes and volleyball court. A short walk away is Lake Dunmore where boating, canoeing, kayaking (rentals available), swimming, fishing, etc.

-          Lots of trails around for hiking and biking.

-          Nearby campground where RV hookups, tent sites, grocery store are available (www.kampersville.com). There’s also Branbury State Park (www.vtstateparks.com) and a Courtyard by Marriott in Middlebury for the less adventuresome.

Availability:

-          Weekend that is available is the LAST weekend of August 28-30. Additional nights may be available for those who’d like to stay longer.

Planned Events:

-          Friday night dinner at a local restaurant in Middlebury – Fire & Ice possibly- each pay own

-          Saturday late afternoon/early evening catered BBQ which we’d need to have folks pre-pay.

We'ld love to hear what any of you think...contact us...

We may have graduated 30 years ago but we never stop learning...

The more things change the more things stay the same...

An excerpt from a recent e mail from Jori trying to hook up with members of the committee...

..."What did I learn?

I learned that showing up unannounced is not a good idea.

I learned that the seats in the lobby are quite comfortable.

I learned that there is a gentleman in the Upper Deck Pub who looks remarkably like Bernie Keefe.

I learned that hugging a stranger can lead to a very embarassing situation."...

On a recent trip to her meadow Jori mistakenly recognizes a fellow member of the class of  '79

Bernie is that you...

The Alumni Banquet

Lynn Raymond Empey has suggested that in addition to our "formal" 30th reunion that several of us should attend the Alumni Banquet this year (the date is unverified  but is probably Friday June 12th) who's up for that? Contact one of us and let us know the level of interest!

Upon hearing that the BFA Class of '79

Might return to Lake George for a

Begin evacuating the region....

Facebook

FYI for everyone, I've created a facebook profile under the name Bellows F Academi as another way for the friends and family of our class to hook up and find each other...look it up if you want or have a profile yourself...

Before...through the years

After 11/24/08

Every little reason...

As we usher in the new year and as a group of dedicated friends put together a BFA'79 30th reunion (and they will do it) many will wonder why should I go th the reunion? I offer up this. On Christmas Eve Steeples Market burned down. Now some of you know it as St Luke, others know it as Berardinelli's store and some just know it as an iconic image as you head out of town towards the falls or goose pond road or where ever...Each day a little piece of the Fairfax we knew slips away...Dirt roads we walked are now paved...Dairy farms we knew are now tracks of houses...3 tv stations (4 if you count the french channel) are replaced by a gazillion on cable and satellite. People lock their doors some could n't tell you their neighbors names. Perhaps it's the nostalgic haze of one guy but I believe we grew up in a special place at the right time and no group of people became better friends. No class at BFA has shown the bond we seem to share. In a time when Woolworths,Fishmans,Ben Franklins, Wards and Ames give way to Super Walmarts and Targets and our land marks slowly fade away thats the time to tip a glass and salute the past.Perhaps this will be the last hurrah, who knows if they'll be another, who knows if this will be the last chance to fondly say Hey to someone we 've cared about for years but can't even put into words why...Why go to the reunion? Because tomorrows seldom give second chances to relive our youth...

Bang the Drums!

All right we've been silent to Long. Work will soon be starting on activly getting the reunion planned. As we get ramped up I'll be updating this site

so send me ideas, fotos, news anything you want...or something about a fellow classmate. We've been lucky enough to be part of a very special

family, The BFA class of '79.We are and were a closer knit group then most who came before or since. Many remain close even after 30 years and

Some who only see each other at these events still think fondly of each other and still care even though life has taken us on different and distant

paths...So lets celebrate and enjoy memories both old and new...Keep in touch and send me stuff to post!Hope to see you all next Year!

Class Reunion

(Elizabeth Lucas)

It was my class reunion, and all through the house,
I checked in each mirror and begged my poor spouse
To say I looked great, that my chin wasn't double,
And he lied through false teeth, just to stay out of trouble.
Said that 'neath my thick glasses, my eyes hadn't changed,
And I had the same figure, it was just a mite rearranged.
He said my skin was still silky, although looser in drape,
Not so much like smooth satin, but more like silk crepe.
I swallowed his words hook, sinker and line
And entered the banquet feeling just fine.
Somehow I'd expected my classmates to stay
As young as they were on that long-ago day
We'd hugged farewell hugs. But like me, through the years,
They'd added gray to their hair, or pounds to their rears.
But as we shared a few memories and retold some class jokes,
We were eighteen in spirit, though we looked like our folks.
We turned up hearing aid volumes and dimmed down the light,
Rolled back the years, and were young for the night.

Hey we made the big time! We are now listed on Google, Yahoo and Altavista! If you search BFA Fairfax Class of 1979...presto we're listed! Ain't the information age wonderful! Not bad for a small town class from the middle of no where VT....

To the other classes...

I've been told that some of the other classes would like to build a similar website for themselves.Well it takes a group of well meaning and dedicated friends, it helps to know a packrat or class historian or photo geek, it takes time, relatively no money but a lot of dedication and the will.If anyone wants some guidence or tips feel free to contact me at cardinal15@yahoo.com and maybe i can help...

The class of 79 salutes you Hiram
