BUILT IN 1969 THIS CARAWAGON WAS FORMERLY REGISTERED BPG 55H  IN THE UK

 I DECIDED TO GO FOR A NEW FRESH COLOR TURQUISE AND CREAM SO FAR I HAVE RPLACED MOST OF THE MAIN BODY AFTER REPAIRING AND PAINTING THE CHASSIS 

 WELL ITS FEB 2006 AFTER A HECTIC YEAR I HAVE FINALLY GOT ROUND TO BUILDING BACK UP THE BODY  I HAVE SPENT THE WINTER REBUILDING VARIOUS VINTAGE LAMBRETTAS WHICH IS MY OTHER PASSION AS I CANT GET THE CARAWAGON INTO THE GARAGE AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE AND ITS TOO COLD TO BE WORKIN IN THE OPEN SO THE NEXT FEW WEEKS SHOULD SEE SOME PROGRESS

ITS APRIL ALREADY AND I HAVE HAD A GOTTEN  LOT OF WORK  DONE OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS


A NICE PIC TAKEN LAST SUMMER IN LARCH HILL SCOUT CENTER IN SOUTH DUBLIN

SINCE THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN IT HAS ALSO GOT 2 INCH SHACKLES AT THE REAR AND SET OF 235/ 85/16 TYRES PLUS SOME OTHER INTERIOR WORK I TOOK A YEAR OR SO OFF FROM THE LANDROVER FOR OTHER PROJECTS  AND TO BIT OF TRAVELLING AROUND EUROPE ON MY LAMBRETTA  BUT ITS TIME TO GET THE OLD GIRL BACK ON THE ROAD.THE  INSURANCE IS SORTED €186.00 WITH CAROLE NASH AND ALL ITS NEEDS NOW IS 47 EURO FOR SOME ROAD TAX WHOCH I WILL SORT OUT NEXT WEEK

 

 

 

THIS WILL NOT BE A CONCOURS VECHICLE I USE IT ALL THE TIME SO I DON'T EXPECT IT TO LOOK BRAND NEW I WILL KEEP THE OUT SIDE AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE BUT I AM GOING TO TRY GET THE INSIDE MODERNISED

 

THE CARAWAGON WAS AN OFFICIAL LANDROVER ENDORSED SPECIAL BUILT BY SEARLE OF SUNBURY ON THAMES SADLY LONG GONE OUT OF BUISNESS, FROM THE EARLY 60'S TO THE 70'S BASED ON THE SERIES LANDROVER AND ARE QUITE RARE NOWADAYS THERE WERE DIFFERENT VERSIONS BUILT FOR MILITARY AND PRIVATE USE ALSO AS MEDICAL CENTRES AND AMBULANCES THE ONE THING THAT THEY ALL HAD IN COMMON WAS THE ROOF WHICH WHEN RAISED IT GAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO WALK THE LENGHT OF THE VECHICLE IT WAS ALSO DIFFERENT TO THE DOORMOBILE WHICH WAS THE TYPE YOU MOST LIKELY SEE ON THE VW CAMPER.FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER THEY ARE RARE BUT THERE ARE STILL A FEW AROUND ALTHOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY WERE BUILT I DOUBT  IF I WILL EVER FIND OUT I KNOW THEY WERE BUILT IN BATCHS  I HAVE ALSO FOUND  A PICTURE OF ONE ON THE NET WITH THE REG BPG-44H AS SEEN BELOW WHERE AS MINE IS BPG-55H

MY PARTICULAR MODEL IS THE MODEL -80 BUILT IN 1969

THIS CARAWAGON WAS REGISTERED BPG-55H BUT NOW HAS THE REG 70 D 863 IN SOUTHERN IRELAND THE 1970 TAG WAS BECAUSE THE FIRST MOT SHOWED IT WAS BUILT IN THAT YEAR  FOR SOME REASON AND THE VECHICLE REGISTRATION OFFICE WOULD NOT BUDGE ON THE DATE EVEN IF THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT VECHICLE I HAVE MOST OF IT HISTORY AS IT CAME WITH LOTS OF ORIGINAL DOCS AND THE ORIGINAL CARAWAGON FOLD OUT SALES BROCHURE LOTS OF MOT CERTS AND A LIST OF THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND STUFF THEY BOUGHT OVER THE YEARS RECEIPTS SALES SLIPS ETC IF YOU KNOW THIS LANDY OR SOME ONE THAT DID PLEASE  CONTACT ME.
