Promontory Point is a peninsula that extends out into Lake Michigan at 55th street. It is located on the Chicago Park District land in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. It is very close to the Museum of Science and Industry and immediately north of the 57th Street Beach. It is the centerpiece of Chicago's Burnham Park. "The Point" was created by landfill in the 1920's and was opened to the pulic in 1937 after extensive landscaping and plumbing.
