Amendment 24
Purpose
The 24rth Amendment gaurantees the voting rights for all citizens of the United States of America. No citizen, regardless of race, gender, or wealth should be abstained from voting.
When?
The Amendment was proposed by the Congress on August 27, 1962, and was ratified on January 23, 1964. Mississippi was the only state that rejected the ratification for the amendment. All other states agreed.
Why?
The reason for the amendment came about when states of the South started having people pay a poll tax after Reconstruction in order to vote. It prohibited poor white and black people from voting. Congress viewed this as a violation of a citizens right, and wanted it removed so there would be greater participation from all citizens of America.
Outcome
This amendment granted/grants every citizen the right to vote! YEESS.
