What is a blog?

A blog can be called an online journal. Below is the definition of Blog according to blogdrive.com.

BLOG: a Blog (short for "Weblog") is an interactive, personalized Web journal for posting your views, art, rants, raves, reviews, pictures, music-anything that you want to share with the teaming masses (or a private group).

1. Wait...WHAT?
Basically, you can do many things with blogs. The majority of people use blogs as they would use a personal journal. It is a way for them to write out their feelings and events that go on in their lives. Others use it as the definition above states. As a review site, to post their drawings (anything to do with art for that matter), pictures, or to share things like music or videos. If you are interested in getting anything such as these out for the public, then you should definatly get yourself a blog. It can be fun if you are truly interested in it.

2. How can I get one?
Okay, first of all, you want to find a blogging website that you feel most comfortable with. Why yes, you must feel comfortable, otherwise you will never want to go back ever again! Trust me! So find one you like and hunt down a link or button that says "Sign Up", "Join" or "Register". Sometimes you might not see them anywhere, if this happens, look under the "log in" section. They usually have a link for people who don't recall their usernames or passwords. If you click in there, the page it takes you to usually has a sign up link or button. Once you get to the sign up page, read and accept the terms of service (if any), and fill out the required fields. They usually will have red asterisks next to them so you know which ones they want you to fill out for sure. Submit your information and wait for the next page. It is different in every site, some will have you confirm your registration by sending you an e-mail, and others might only have you proceed on to begin your blogging journey.

"Do you have to know HTML to set up a BLOG?"
Something you should know is that you may want to start learning easy basics to HTML. While some blogging sites offer you HTML tools in your update box, not all of them do. This means that if you want different colored text, bloded/italicized/underlined words or phrases, you are going to have to learn how to set them up. It also goes for images, music, or any type of media you may want to post. Some blogging sites also allow you to create your own layouts, meaning you can make a custom design for your blog instead of using their default layouts/designs. However, it requires a large amount of HTML/CSS knowledge. This is only for those who want to get really fancy with their blogs.

Let's go over the steps one more time:

-Find a blogsite you feel most comfortable with.
-Sign up/Join/Register.
-Read and Accept the terms of use.
-Fill out the required fields.
-Confirm your registration
-Proceed onto your new blog!
