USB Powered Torch
URGENT: MY BANDWIDTH IS ALMOST USED UP ALREADY AND WONT BE RESET UNTIL THE 25TH OF EACH MONTH! PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO COVER THE COSTS SO EVERYBODY CAN VIEW MY GREAT WORK!

THANKYOU

Ok, i'll be honest with you all. Its not the greatest hack I can do, but i'm waiting on some parts for my water powered torch, and did this to pass some time, because it school holidays! YAY!

Let's get started. you only need a few things for this hack:
  1. A Wind Up Torch (because it has an internal rechargable battery)
  2. A USB Cable
  3. Screw Driver
  4. Liquid Electrical Tape (see my Equipment page)
This is the torch I used. It was like AUD$20 or something. I only really ever used it once at camp. And it was real annoying waking about 30 people up when you need to do a piss in the middle of the night (it's not as bad as those shake torches). If you are going to use this exact same torch, be careful, when you open it, gears and shafts go everywhere (most got lost in my jungle of carpet...)

Once it's apart, I cut the cables from the motor/generator. A great feature of this torch is that it doesnt matter which way you turn the handle, it still charges (good if your bad at knowing which way wires go around)

You need to wire up the red and black cables to where the motor/generator was located, and then connect the green white wires together and then solder them to the bare wire (ground). Apply some liquid electrical tape to the connections. I put some all over the bottom, just to make sure, then a piece of tape to hold the wires down.

I also had to cut away at some of the plastic (ripping away with pliers more like it...) to make the usb cable fit through. Unlike me, you will try an avoid cutting the hole for the gear shaft.

Reassemble, and your done. Although it's not a speed demon at recharging, it does the job. It takes about an hour to recharge. you can use it on anything, laptops, desktops, PS2's even work. It also works on those AA battery USB things.

In the meantime, im just wasting my holidays waiting for some supplys for my water powered torch. So long!
