What's a Nigerian Dwarf?
The Nigerian Dwarf Miniature Diary Goat originally comes from Africa. They are a very different breed from a Pygmy. Pygmy's are considered a meat goat, unlike the Nigerian Dwarfs who are dairy goats. Pygmy goats can come in only a few colors; Agouti, black, or brown with white hairs mixed throughout. Caramel, light white to dark brown with a black dorsal stripe and other black markings, and black. They can also have a belly band, a white marking across the belly. Nigerian Dwarfs can be any color that you can think of, black, white, gold, speckled, painted, bay and everything in between. They tend to be slimmer and less "cobby", they also tend to have better udders because of breeding and have more elegant conformation. Here are a few pictures of Pygmy's VS Nigerian's.
