It has emerged this week that Saint Roch's WILL have an Under 18's Squad next season. This comes as a major bonus for the players of the now defunct Under 16's! However like every year the squad will need a major reshuffle after 10 of last years squad have since left, none more notable than James 'Chico' Elliott who after making a brief return to the school team returned to Celtic on a full-time contract. Other players; Patrick French, John Moore, Paul McIlroy, Andrew Wilson, Mark Matheson, Paul Clayton, John Cotter, Scott Paterson and Patrick Linton have all left the team to find employment.
Players looking to fill the voids by the players mentioned above are; Stephen McGoldrick, Kevin Nolan, Darren Melon, Martin Gough, Anton Carey, Kevin Kelly, Lyes Foussi, Scott Mooney, Jason McGowan, Martin Rae, Steven Miller and Mark O'Hara . All of whom will compete in a forthcoming trial match with the remaining 5 players from last seasons squad (Joe Murphy, Paul O'Donnell, Joseph Gordon, Barry Graham and Jamie Daily)
Saint Roch's also look set to draft in 4th year pupil Alec Anderson for the forthcoming season. Anderson, shone last season for the Under 15's and looks destined to team up with the Under 18's! When asked of the claim linking Anderson to the seniors he answered ' Hopefully I will get the ok from Mr Kelly and after that I can concentrate on working hard for the team.' |

Heartbreak As Saint Roch's Lose In Penalties.
|
Saint Roch's failed in their attempt to claim the League Cup after an enthralling 120 minutes and penalty kicks.
Things looked bright for 'The Roch' on the drenched pitch when stand-in goalkeeper Barry Graham saved a penalty and watched as O.L.S.P. hit the post. WAS LADY LUCK ON OUR TEAM??? Things got even better when the referee awarded a penalty for the'Candy' and John Cotter drove home from 12 yards. However, tragically O.L.S.P. equalised whithin 5 minutes of the 'Candy's' opener. The lads heads could not go down. No more goals were scored in the second half and so Saint Roch's were forced to endure Extra-Time.
Again no goals for either team forced penalties!
The people who put themselves in the firing line were; Joseph 'Belly' Gordon, John Cotter and Mark Matheson. Cotter being the only man to convert his kick. The final scoreline O.L.S.P. 4 - Saint Roch's 1
Regardless of the final outcome, the boys of 'The Roch' can hold their heads high and boast of being the most successful Saint Roch's team EVER!!! |
