Update 18/07/09 - Well I'll be fucked. After over a year of trying once or twice a month to log in only to find that I wasn't able to, I can finally start to update my site again. And it couldn't have come at a better time. Today I was informed, from a very reliable source that
THE FIVE WICKED WAYS ERA CANDY HARLOTS HAVE REUNITED!
This is no bullshit. This is by far the most exciting thing to happen in Australian rock music since the formation of the very first incarnation of the Candy Harlots themselves. And now they're back once again. It has finally happened! The Candy Harlots will be playing a show at The Gaelic Theatre in Surry Hills, Sydney on the 31st of October and there will possibly more dates to come. Details will be in next weeks Drum Media so be sure to check that out, and check this page regularly for updates!
Update - 30/5/08 - Anyone who went to the Pete Wells final CD launch a couple of weeks ago would have surely enjoyed the band billed only as 'Angry Anderson', which was infact the same line up of 'The Damn Fine Band', less of course Pete Wells. For those that don't know, this band is a rock/blues supergroup featuring Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), Pete Wells (Rose Tattoo, Pete Wells Band), PETER MASI (Candy Harlots, Beware Of The Dog), Mick Cocks (Rose Tattoo), Paul Demarco (Rose Tattoo), Lucy DeSoto (Pete Wells Band) and Mark Evans (AC/DC) that only released one live album and did a few small tours and were never to be heard of again. I was there, I thouroughly enjoyed it, I got the set list, and I got to speak with Peter Masi again, who seemed to remember me, judging by his reply of "Yeah. Candy Harlots flanno!" when asked if he remembers me.
And in other Harlots related news, Marc DeHugars band Evolution X have ended their search for a new drummer and bassist, with the addition of Scot Coogan (a talented drummer who has played with Brides Of Destruction, Stephen Pearcy, Ace Frehley, George Lynch, Motley Crue and Dizzy Reed to name a few) and Anthony Esposito (Ace Frehley, Lynch Mob, The Remains) and will hopefully be gigging soon. And Leeno's amazing project INK are currently working on their follow up to 'Lead Or Follow' as well as doing a handful of live dates.
Update 11/02/08 - Alot has happened since my last update. Between one week before 2007's end and just last week I met a further three Candy Harlots members.
On the 28th of December a friend and I headed to the Three Wise Monkeys pub on George St, Sydney to watch one of Phil Bowley's current bands, The Gas. No longer than five minutes after arriving (although we arrived late because I had to go and buy shoes because the security wouldnt let me in wearing steel capped boots. The only shoes I could find at 10pm were gay white slip on shoes.) I was greeted by Phil who introduced himself (he recognised me because of my Harlots shirt) and we spoke briefly before he went to the bar to get himself a drink. On his way back we continued to talk a bit more, just about his various projects and what he had been up to. Phil even spoke to us about our music as well as his. He seemed to be genuinely interested in hearing the music that I've made just as much as I was interested in hearing his. His band (a cover band) played a set including songs by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fuel, Maroon 5 and Blink 182 and performed them exceptionally well. Phil even had one fan bowing down to him Wayne's World 'we're not worthy' style. Between that set and the next Phil returned for another chat, and gave me a copy of Nailed... The long lost unreleased second Candy Harlots album. As well as an amazing solo album titled 'Inside The Outside'
As you can well imagine - I was very excited. Sure I had to look like a fag with my gay shoes, but it was worth it. As well as getting a copy of Nailed, I got to meet Phil Bowley AND watch him perform. Sure it wasn't the Candy Harlots, but it was good enough.
But that's not all. On the 2nd of February 2008 I went to the Hardcore Superstar gig at The Gaelic Club in Surry Hills, Sydney with the sole intent of seeing Leeno Dee's current band - INK. As INK were setting up their instruments I yelled out to Leeno who turned and said 'Hey. Nice shirt'. And kept walking. While it was only brief, I was still some what excited after being spoken to by Leeno (I have a screaming school girl type obsession with these people). But shortly after, he returned, with a hand shake and an autographed bass pick. Fuck yes. INK's set was fantastic. Up until that night I'd only heard two songs from their MySpace page, but after seeing them live, I was extremely impressed with the entire band and of course Leeno's undying stage presence. My friend and I caught up with him between the Hell City Glamours and Hardcore Superstar sets and we spoke about everything I could think to ask, from Nailed, to the reason that Aiz was fired(which Leeno said he didnt want to speak about because he has "too much respect for him as a singer and as a performer" - which is a refreshing change from most who like to put shit on Aiz.), the 1998 reunion and of course, the star/heart tattoo on his right shoulder, which is still there after all these years ("I'll never get it covered")
It was such an honour to meet Leeno, a man who after the departure of Mark Easton pretty much single handedly led the band in the direction that they went, and acted as a kind of band leader. And even having spoken very little to Aiz since the 1998 one off reunion, Leeno still has enough respect for him that he refused to discuss Aiz's departure (even though it wasn't my intention to provoke bitter words about Aiz) and that is truly admirable.
On the very same night, while only briefly, I was also able to meet Peter Masi. A slightly drunk dude approached me shortly after Leeno left us and said "My mate wants to sign your shirt. Come here". I wandered over and there I found Peter Masi. We spoke for only a few minutes about what he had been up to and his recommendation of Hardcore Superstar.
So there you have it. 3 members in a matter of weeks. Jealous? I would be.

Update 22/12/07 - Phil Bowley is back in action again - and has been for a while now. While creating a Wikipedia page about Aiz (I've started to create Candy Harlots related Wikipedia articles - I'll eventually cover every other member) I visited the Candy Harlots main page for a couple of references when I came across a link to Phil's official website - www.philbowley.com . It would appear that Phil has been very busy over the last few years, with several music projects. Phil will be playing a number of shows around New South Wales over the coming weeks, including a couple of shows at Sydney's Three Wise Monkeys pub, so check out the website for dates.
Another discovery I made while undertaking my ritual of searching the names of Candy Harlots members on Google when I get bored is www.flickr.com and particularly the photography of Flickr user d_neese. D_neese has some fantastic shots of the Aiz era of The Candy Harlots and The Harlots. These photo's are outstanding, and I urge you all to visit Flickr and search for Aiz Lynch, Phil Bowley, Leeno Dee, Candy Harlots to view some fantastic shots of the band in their prime.
Update 13/12/07 - Finally, a connection has been made. A few days ago, a person who goes by the name of choc64 wrote the following comment in my guestbook:

This is fantastic news. I'm rather excited. This has answered many questions for me. Yet I have so many more. So choc64, first of all, how did choc64 get a copy of this album? Is it possible for me to buy a copy of it from you? Or trade copies with you in exchange for some of my bootlegs?

Update 06/11/07 - Where the fuck is the second album? Ok. Many of you know this already. But for those who don't, here is a quick history. The Candy Harlots did record a second album. Although, they may not have recorded it as The Candy Harlots. There was a second album recorded at one point, although by that time, I'm of the opinion that the band had changed their name to Helter Skelter. I'm not too sure myself.
Anyway. Shortly after Aiz was sacked, and the band hired Hayden Watt as their new vocalist, Virgin Records had been bought by EMI. The Candy Harlots were immediately signed to EMI's Australian label. Now - around this time the band recorded an album with Mack (who has also produced albums by Queen and Black Sabbath). Due to some legal issues, it was never released. This leads me to believe that the band had actually changed their name to Helter Skelter before recording the second album. After recording a two track single as Helter Skelter, the band was faced with several legal problems, as they weren't permitted to use that particular name due to the fact that it was protected under copyright. During this period, EMI dropped the band from the label (I assume because of the legal issues), and they changed their name to The Harlots.
But what happened to the second album? In one particular article, Drum Media journalist Murray Engleheart described the unreleased album as "amazingly powerful". Was the album so close to release that they had already sent out promotional copies to the press? It had obviously already been completed. So where is it now? Does anyone have a copy? Will it ever be released? Does EMI intend to release it eventually? Does any member of the band intend to release it? Who owns the master tapes? If anyone knows anything, let me know. Email me, or post something in the forum.
Update 05/11/07 - One thing that I, as well as many others have noticed, is that there are no photos and little information about Aiz Lynch and the Aiz era band (with the exception of Leeno and Tony) on the internet. Every Candy Harlots related website on the internet contains photos and information that is mostly focused on the Mark era. This strikes me as being rather odd, considering that during the time that Aiz fronted the band, The Candy Harlots were at the peak of their success. It was during this time that they recorded their one and only album, and were signed to Virgin Records as a result of Andrew McMannus (their manager at the time) playing a demo of the Aiz-penned 'What Are We Fighting For' to Virgin representatives - and obviously impressing them.
Don't get me wrong - the Mark era was great. But the Aiz era, as well as the other post Mark line-ups were eras that were just as important and should not be forgotten. For some, The Candy Harlots were over after the departure of the Peroxide Prancer. And that's fair enough. But what Mark had built up only continued to grow as the band recreated themselves. It's all very well to say that they're not the same band without Mark Easton - because they're not. But you have to have respect for the band that recreated themselves and achieved so much in such a short period of time.
This was a band that supported AC/DC on their Razor's Edge tour - after only 15 gigs with Aiz as their front man. This was a band that recorded what could be considered one of, if not THE greatest Australian album ever made. This was a band that had Phil Bowley - arguably the greatest lead guitarist Australia has to offer (right next to Marc DeHugar). Pete Masi, who went on to play in the rock n roll supergroup The Damn Fine Band, along with Angry Anderson and Pete Wells of Rose Tattoo., Leeno Dee, who almost single handedly rebuilt the band and made them what they were. Tony Cardinal, perhaps the most under rated drummer ever. And of course - Aiz Lynch, a man who hasn't done much since his departure from the Harlots for reasons unknown. But combined with his attitude (I heard he killed a guy once), unique fashion sense and amazingly powerful vocals - he is the ultimate rock vocalist.
And no, I'm not just whingeing. I do intend to do something about it. And considering the fact that I run a moderately successful Candy Harlots fansite - I can. So here are a few photos of Aiz (and unfortunately, only very few of the other band members of that line-up) that I've taken from posters, articles, CD covers, and of course - a photo of me WITH Aiz. If you're getting the feeling that I had an ulterior motive for writing this update, and although I do believe that the post Mark eras don't get enough recognition, but I mostly wanted to drop - once again - that I've met Aiz Lynch - you're probably right.

Update 25/10/2007 - PAINDIVISION, the new project featuring Jordan Howe (who was once the singer of The Harlots for their one and only E.P) and Stu Marshall from the now defunct Australian metal band Dungeon will be playing only two shows in Australia before they head out to Japan to support their debut album. The band will be playing at Sweeny's in Campbelltown on Friday, November 9. They will also be playing a free, all ages gig at Utopia Records in Sydney from 2pm onwards on the 10th. The Utopia gig will feature free giveaways from their sponsors, ESP Guitars, DSL Straps and Guitarist Australia Magazine.
Anyone who hasn't heard the band should check them out. While they may not be everyone's thing (especially those on this page, as Paindivision are in no way like The Candy Harlots), they are a fantastic Australian metal band. While their sound is unique, it would appear that they draw influences from bands like Black Label Society, early Metallica, late Pantera - and probably the Candy Harlots too (Jordan once was one, Stu is a huge fan - and they do thank them in the album booklet).
You can check out a few of their songs on MySpace and if you like what you hear, the album is available at Utopia Records and JB Hi-Fi. Or if you're really cheap, come see them for free at Utopia on the 10th of November - you might even win something. And if you're lucky, they might play a Candy Harlots song....but probably not.
Also - INK will be playing a New Years Eve show at Club Blink (Agincourt Hotel, Sydney) with Tourettes. Early bird tickets are available now for $20 at Utopia or the Blink website.
Update 22/10/2007 - If you have subscribed to the Candy Harlots Newsletter (on www.candyharlots.tk), you would know that Plastic Donut Records have released four new live Candy Harlots CDs (Live at The St James Tavern, Live at Selina's - The Harlot's Ball, Live at The Bayview Tavern and Live at The Corner Hotel). Thankfully, Mark hasn't stooped to the level of other ex-glam band members who decide to name their live albums after one of their popular song titles, but with the exception of one word - usually 'love' - which is cleverly changed to the word 'Live' (and it definitely could be done too. e.g: Hot LIVE Child, I Need Your LIVEin, LIVE Rebel, Take Me Or LIVE Me, I LIVE It Both Ways, Savage LIVE, I'm A LIVEr I'm A Slut, Vicious LIVE - and I'm sure there is a few more). While this can be extremely amusing - it's also extremely lame, so good work Mark - you're above that.
And now for the stuff that concerns me, but no one else will care about - I went to the Hollywood Hotel just the other day, for no other reason than to see where the Sister's Crazy video was filmed. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed access to the roof (for obvious reasons), but I did get to have a beer there and take a photo, which I'm happy with.
I finally cut off my Dee Tail too, which is pretty irritating, because I just came up with an extremely clever/lame name for it (Get it? Dee Tail? Detail? Fuck I'm clever). It was one thing to cut my hair like that, but unfortunately I'm not dedicated enough to put up with it swinging all over the place as I walk. Sorry Leeno, but as cool as it is, and as great as it looks - it's by far the most annoying hair style I've had.
Update 26/9/07 - A couple of days ago a YouTube user by the name of adelaidejetboy posted the Sister's Crazy video. It's good shit. I hadn't seen it up until now. And to the girl who e-mailed me informing me that there is infact a video for Sister's Crazy (I thought otherwise, and expressed this opinion on this website), but didn't know the name of the hotel that they were playing on top of - it's called the Hotel Hollywood (2 Foster St, Surry Hills, Sydney). Leeno, Marc DeHugar and Mark Easton all have new projects in the making. Leeno's new band, Melody Black is somewhat of a half The Harlots (The Harlots. Not the Candy Harlots) reunion. This new side project features only Leeno and ex-Harlots drummer Tubby Wadsworth and the current time. It's unknown whether there will be more members added to the band, or if it will just be an odd drum and bass duo, but judging by the influences listed on their MySpace page (70's glam, 70's punk, industrial, 80's metal, 80's hardcore) it will certainly be interesting and I look forward to hearing it.
Marc DeHugar has formed another band after Dragonfly disbanded due to certain problems within the band (more details can be found on Marc's MySpace page.). His new band looks promising, and Marc himself has noted that there will be a diverse range of styles explored with this new project. Featuring Marc, Glen Mortimer, Ryan (from Dragonfly) and a whole bunch of guest singers, with every member exploring their musical capabilities and going beyond their limitations, Evolution X should not be missed.
And finally - Mark Easton is soon to be releasing a solo album. He hasn't given away too much about how the album will sound or if it will sound similar to Mark Easton Limousine, but he has posted up a new song on the Mark Easton Limousine MySpace page. Check it out.
And also, if any one has any suggestions - I want to get a Candy Harlots themed tattoo, as I live and breathe Candy Harlots, so therefore I need something to remind myself of this. I was considering getting the heart with the star and all that....but having that tattooed is kind of gay. Update 21/07/07 - I'm fixing up the history page gradually, whenever I get some time. I added a forum today, just because I was given the option. If you'd like to post something, feel free to. Its better than the gay guestbook. I added a 'Who is your favourite Candy Harlots member' poll on the Misc page, just because I can (the 'site manager' on Freewebs gave me alot of 'add on' options which I've taken full advantage of). I've also listed my collection of Candy Harlots stuff in the Misc. page, which I think is a some what worthy addition. If you have anything that I'm missing, or anything to do with the Candy Harlots or any of the associated bands, let me know. I'll probably buy it off you. Also, I got my hair cut like Leeno. That is dedication at its most hard core.
Update 16/07/07 - While searching Candy Harlots on Google today, I came across the extremely evil 'Ultimate Metal Forum' which features a thread titled 'A Metal History Lesson' (Check it out - http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/lord/109655-metal-history-lesson.html ). It begins with a few facts about hair and metal bands from back in the day, most of which are Australian. Not too far into it, Trixxi Trash (bassist from Melbourne glam band 'The Deadthings') mentioned the Candy Harlots, and from there on there is a few mentions and references and then it kind of goes down hill after that. Except for a particular post from a guy called 'judgement' who says...

I know this is an old post but I just found this site and I was just going through some of the posts and found you talking about Aiz Lynch.
I actually just joined Aiz in his new band called Ugly Little Secrets. He has come up with some really awesome ROCK originals they are really impressive. I think he wants to be gigging in the middle of May.

So there you have it. Aiz has a new band. And yes I do realise that it is well past the middle of May, but I'm still optimistic. It will be interesting to see what Aiz comes out with. Chances are, it will be excellent. The CD that he gave to me when I met him (that's right. I met Aiz and have a CD of unreleased material from him. Jealous.) is a fucking awesome bunch of recordings which you are all dying to hear. His new band should be something to look forward to. Trust me.
Update 10/06/07 - Here is the just completed Mark Easton interview. It will also appear on the Misc page. Thanks to Mark for getting back to me as soon as possible and clearing some shit up for me. Marks answers are in green.
1) It has been quite heavily publicised that the band was formed as a piss-take of the emerging 'glam' scene of the time. We're you surprised to discover that you had built a strong fanbase, most of which were fans of other 'serious' glam bands? Or was this all part of the plan?
heres the story, i was in a post punk outfit called SOGGY PORRIDGE, my girlfriend at the time around 84, came back from london with 2 albums, motley crue too fast for love, and hanoi rocks up around the bend (i think it was called) i was impressed and back then i started wanting to do a glam band, in fact i wanted to change the name of my band to CHROME DESIRE, i even had posters made but no body wanted to do it, it was way too early, i already had a fairly glam look, i always had the long blonde hair and make up and jewllery, so it was an easy transformation!
but i had to wait another 2 years before anybody was even remotely interested with playing glam, i was not even aware there was a glam scene about to emerge, i just knew thats what i wanted to do, i left SOGGY PORRIDGE and joined a young inner city band called the GLAM SAVAGES as a vocalist, that is where i met RON BARRETT and NICK SZENCUTTI, we had a fall out with the lead guitarist, so i asked them to join me and go uner the name CANDY HARLOTS.
WE WERE INNER CITY GUYS WE HAD NO TIES WITH THE METAL SCENE OR THE HARD ROCK SCENE!
in fact if you lived in the inner city those styles of music were thought of as westy music or yobo music!
i didnt start the band as a heavy rock, metal band!
we were a grungy mix of the new york dolls, punk and pop!
and we werent originally poking fun at the glam scene because we didnt even know a glam scene existed!
we were sick of all the inner city arty bands who stood on stage like statues staring at their shoes playing well thought out songs with inteligent lyrics, we wanted to shake sydney up and make something new and exciting, totally out of control and sexual, i was a very horny guy so it was just a way of picking up more chics!
later when the glam scene did start to exist, we just put shit on that and made a mockery of it, because we were very anti westy guys, we were more into the cult and zodiac mindwarp (my fave band at the time)than poison or guns and roses!
2) There is a particular photo of you in the gallery section of the official Candy Harlots website in which you bear an uncanny resemblance to David Lee Roth. You've also made note of the fact that you hate the Sammy Hagar (and probably Gary Cherone) era of Van Halen. Are you a Diamond Dave fan? Was he an influence on your image or singing style?
not really i had heard van halen in the late 70's but i never followed their carreer as i was more into punk, but obviously later when i was doing the candy thing i did see the likeness, and really liked daves onstage persona! but i never imitated him!
3) Who was Annette (the cover girl from the Red Hot Rocket single)?
she was a fat drag queen who ron knew from this seedy fag bar in the cross! we were pretty bent guys from living in the inner city
4) What happened with Sex Crazy? Why was it never released? Do you have plans to release it in the future?
we recorded a demo with about 10 songs on it, warner chappell played it to a producer (i forget his name but he produced the 5 wicked ways album) and he picked 2 of my songs sex crazy and take me or leave me to produce as a single, to the horror of the other guys in the band, because by this time leeno and ron were writing a lot of songs and a power struggle had developed in the band, and leeno especially was trying to make his presence felt, and why shouldnt he, he writes great songs, and yes we are still good friends!
when we went in to record them we had some spare time, so we put where no one dares down as well, actually the producer sang back ups on it!
it was never released because our manager danny handley was always reaching for the stars and was always against us releasing stuff independently, he was the biggest dick head i ever had as a manager! it was a constant fight to get anything done! thats why when his management contract ran out i left the band and the guys then had free range to get the record deal we had been offered by virgin back in 87, what a bloody shame!
all candy harlots material will be released over time, as it is compiled cleaned up and mastered!
5) Was there ever to be an album from the Mark Easton Candy Harlots? Was there ever plans or talk of it? On Marc De Hugars website there are a few songs available to download including Give It Up, Burning Heart and Fantasies. Were these songs recorded for an album? Or were they intended to be singles?
they were the demos for the affor mentioned recording session for warner chappell
6) How do you feel about the Aiz and Hayden era's of the Harlots? From what I've read you obviously feel that with the addition of these singers the band's image and music had strayed from what the Candy Harlots were originally about. But how do you feel about the music? If you hadn't had anything to do with the band previously do you think you would be a fan? What do you think of Hayden and Aiz as vocalists?
i never heard anything that hayden did, aiz could sing for sure, but the band now had no inner city guys left in it, except for tony, so it became a band of guys who were hard rock, metal guys! me, ron, nick, came form completely different backgrounds musically so we had a completely fresh sound, it was like fresh trash!
7) On the Plastic Donut website it says at the bottom of the main page that there is going to be some more Candy Harlots videos and CDs available soon. Can you tell us what will be available?
i already have 12 live concerts available but not up on the site yet, we will be releasing all demos and unreleased singles some time in the future!
8) You play guitar in your current band, The Mark Easton Limousine, and you are quite good at what you do. You also played guitar in your pre Harlots days in The Kelpies and Suicide Squad. Did you ever write any of the music for an Candy Harlots songs, or just lyrics?
i wrote the majority of music and most of the lyrics dehugar wrote a few songs, and ron wrote a fair few, and leeno wrote a lot especially after i left!
i could list all the songs i wrote but im too lazy!
9) What happened on the night of Marc De Hugar's 18th birthday when you allegedly disgusted his very religious mother and had her praying at the side of the stage?
i think i reinacted christ being crucified or gave a gun with a silencer on it a blow job or something, who knows!
10) The vocalist for your first band, Suicide Squad, as you know is named Annie Barrett. Was she any relation to Ron?

11) I read in an article written during the Aiz era that Danger was written about the "uneccessary risks involved with boning babes under 16". The promotional video shot for the Aiz version seems to confirm this, with a nice little passionate scene involving Aiz and a blonde school girl who, as her father says in the beginning of the video is "only 15". However, the video filmed for the original version of Danger features a much older looking woman. Also, there is nothing in the lyrics (with the exception of a few very subtle references) to suggest that the song is about underage sex at all. Was this what the lyrics were written about? Or was it just mean't to be a pisstake break up song?
leeno wrote songs that were not as graphically sexual as me, i think when i left they just tried to palm of these songs with stories to make them more risque, come on i was writing songs like im a lover im a slut, sex crazy, red hot rocket in my pocket etc etc, they were releasing commercial songs and tarting them up with stories to make them seem sleazy but they didnt really come close did they!
12) Who came up with the name 'Candy Harlots'?
me! my girlfriend was into the jesus and mairy chain, they had songs like candy talking, thats where the candy came from! and the harlots came from, the glam savages, it was 2 opposites, glam savages = candy harlots, same thing really!
13) You've already explained 'Do the nightingale walk'. But what's with '...there was once a frog'?
it was probably some stupid analogy that danny had used to explain something to us in a band meeting, we hated that guy and we paid him out as often as possible!
14) Describe the music of Mark Easton Limousine for those who haven't yet heard the music.
blues rock roots, manic slide guitar with my very familiar growly vocals!

i used to! i even had a guy come to a gig that had been living in brazil for 10 years, he told me he was the guy who got my blow up doll that i threw in to the crowd at my last show!
16) You left the band because you were "going to end up dead from drug abuse" and you've also mentioned that you regularly visited the STD Clinic at the hospital. Do you feel that you have lived the rock n' roll lifestyle?
