Burlington Fire Dept.

The unofficial site......

Statistic

Curious about how much goes on here at the fire station?  A LOT!  Here you will find statistics that show how the brave men and women of Burlington Fire Department serve our community.

The picture you see above is the Central Fire Station, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa.  Originally built in 1907, located on the corner of 5th and Valley streets.  The building once housed both the police and fire departments, until 1993 when the police department had to relocated to their present location on 3rd street.

The Burlington Fire department responds to approximately 5,000 alarms each year.  These alarms vary and are handled in different ways as we are not "just a fire department".  Besides providing fire suppression to the city of Burlington, we also have Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting at the regional airport, handle hazardous material incidents in Des Moine county with our highly trained Haz Mat team, and provide emergency medical care with Paramedics that are trained at the Advanced Life Support level. (Our ambulances respond outside the Burlington community to surrounding townships as well, and offer a non-emergency transfer service to hospitals)  Types of rescues that the firefighters are trained in include: Confined Space, High Angle Rescue, Water Rescue, and Motor Vehicle Extrication.

Below is the Summer Street Fire Station.  This facility houses additional apparatus as well as the Crash Fire Rescue truck that provides coverage for the airport.  Being on the outskirt edge of the Southeast Iowa Regional Airport, the fire personnel are able to respond to airport emergencies very quickly, as well as provide fire and ambulance coverage for the southern portion of the city.
