Romancing on the Bay of Fundy: My Soul's Attraction by Donna L. Sheehy

Into Her World..., July 27, 2006
As I began my journey through the magical pages of "Romancing on the Bay of Fundy" by Donna L. Sheehy, I was moved into this author's world of ocean breezes and sandy beaches. Sheehy brought me into her world, with each line and stanza, making me wish more and more that I could truly be in this place that brings such inspiration. From "The Ocean's Melody", signing its song so sweet, to the ghostly whispers of old folklore stories passed down, such as in "The Lighthouse"-this reader found herself seeking more. And alas, it was given. I then came upon the wonderful romantic artistry in pieces such as, "Eternal Love", and this my favorite, "Surrender". Sheehy has done an extraordinary job, by allowing her readers to see the beauty she sees around her. There is a harmonious composition that Sheehy brings to her work, and it one that is not only enjoyed by this reader, but appreciated. I recommend this to anyone is search of the beauty in this world.

There is Majick in the air..., July 20, 2006
As I began my review of "Moons, Dreams and Majical Things" by Tonya Busbee, the first thing that struck me was the beautiful artwork that was arranged in the book. It played just as important a role as did the words that Ms. Busbee wrote. That artwork seemed to allow her words to leap from the pages in an even more prolific way. I might add however, that Ms. Busbee didn't need artwork to assist her in providing this reviewer with an inside look into the heartaches and struggles that the author has faced. Line by line, and piece by piece it was apparent that not only does this young woman have enormous talent, but she has also dealt with much pain and sorrow. I admired how Ms. Busbee constructed the layout of the poetry, for it isn't conventional-but free form, and it adds to the book even more. Her use of style, artwork and her words truly grabbed this reviewer from page one to the very last page. Some of my favorite pieces would include: "Rain Cries", "Screaming in the Darkness", "Crimson Comfort", "Alone, Tears and Whispers Are Left", "Help Me", "Don't Talk to Me", "Restless Wanderer", "How Many", and this reviewer's pick for best piece, "United". At the end of Ms. Busbee's book, she includes quotes from various sources. To some these may take away from her work, but in essence, I think they add a bit of "majick" to it. This book is an artistic collection of poetry that I recommend to anyone seeking a good book to curl up with!

To Beirut And Back: An American in the Middle East by Abe F. March

An Inside Look..., July 20, 2006
In " To Beirut And Back: An American in the Middle East " by author Abe March I was taken back to a time when, even though freedom was granted to those here in the United States without question, it was difficult being an American business man in a foreign country. Back in the 1970's, many who lived and did business abroad were not immediately concerned about the threat of violence, even though it was around them. When the major violence did break out in the Middle East many fled-except March. He stood his ground. I found the personal account of the trials March and his family faced during the Lebanese Civil War heart wrenching. Now, however, when one goes abroad-especially the Middle East-they are on guard. March risked not only material possessions, but most importantly, his life-not knowing what or having reason to fear what he was walking into. This book is most recommended, not only for its inside look into a tumultuous time in our history, but for its "edge of your seat" effect. Allow Mr. March to take you inside his personal account of his life in "To Beirut and Back".

Black Petal Rose: The First Collection of Misterpoet by John Thompson

Don't Pass This One Up..., July 12, 2006
I recently had the honor of reviewing "Black Petal Rose", by author John Thompson. While we all face demons throughout our lives, Mr. Thompson use of words to bring those demons to light is wonderful! It is a blank canvas and he paints a very vivid picture of how one feels like a pariah in society these days. This reviewer herself has felt the sting of purdah and forlornness at times. It was hard to choose my favorite pieces of the many in the wonderful collection. To narrow it down, I must recommend "The Cry", "Lost", "Skip Me" (this reviewer's favorite), and "One breath, Two lovers before". This young man has done a tremendous job allowing others to see inside his very soul-not only the darkness that once haunted him, but the triumphs he has made. I highly recommend this book!

This is just what Ms. Rogers has done with this exceptional collection. It truly shows her prodigious talent.

I Have Arrived at This Destination by Pier Tyler

Travel Down This Path of Poetic Wonder..., June 21, 2006
As I read page by page the eloquently written works of "I Have At Arrived At This Destination" by Pier Tyler, I found myself immersed in her words. Tyler had a way of guiding me into her life experiences. While some of her pieces were short, sweet and straight to the point, others held special meaning to this reviewer. These pieces were: "What Does Love Mean To You?", "I Say Enough", "Letter To God", "Home For The Holidays"-because we all have dealt with situations like this, and just for women in general- "Q B Attitude".  As I wandered on down Ms. Tyler's path of poetic expression, I was touched by her childhood memories of friendships in pieces such as: "Mud Pack" and "Cross My Heart". Many pieces seemed to jump from the pages, but none more than: "The City Cries", "The "In" Look", and "Diamonds". These pieces tell stories, both factual and fictional, of society today. This is a book that I feel is needed in everyone's collection. It was a most enjoyable read!

A Distinct Difference by Jamaris Bragg

Refreshing!, April 19, 2006
I've just finished reading, "A Distinct Difference" by author Jamaris Bragg and I must say that it was quite refreshing! I got the best of all worlds and styles in this book. Bragg gives an outlook from hardship to salvation and the struggles of maintaining that faith. It is nice to see that not everything is perfect. Many assume that as a Christian-and in this case, Reverend's wife, there would be no trials or tribulation in her life. Ahh, but Jamaris gives an inside look into not only her faith, but overcoming obstacles that have been placed in front of her. There were many pieces that I was touched by, but to name a few, "No, Please, Don't-You Promised"-is heart wrenching and, on a personal note, impacted this reviewer greatly. I also greatly enjoyed "Sorry", "Your No Good Lover", "I Miss You God", and "I Ask". Tears were brought to my eyes with her words in "Dear Mom and Dad". I couldn't help but nod in agree with her pieces "Mistaken Identity" and "You Don't Know". But in the end, she had me laughing with "Faithful Mutt". I've truly enjoyed this read and recommend it to anyone who's faced tribulation in their lives. Bragg shows that all things are possible through God, which this reviewer does agree with. Whatever your faith, read along and be touched as I was by her soulful words."

Mind's Diary by Robert Meacham

Wonderful Read!, April 7, 2006
"As not only a writer, but a reader of poetry, I was truly moved by Robert Meacham's "Mind's Diary." The author brings the reader into his work, letting them sit along side him as he constructs each line. His words touch on topics that many reflect back on-such as going to grandmother's house and how overwhelming it was to step onto her porch, yet once that door was opened there was no place like it in the world. Or the child that plays all day outside, getting as dirty as can be, and picking up special little "trinkets" of his day-like sticks, and pretty rocks-then going home to mom and letting her see how dirty he is! I was struck by Meacham's piece, "Addiction", as it truly is a look at something many battle. I feel that every soon to be married couple should have "The Wedding Prayer" included in their wedding vows, as it is an outstanding way to start out a marriage on. I'm honored that I was allowed to review such a fine piece of work, from an outstanding writer. I recommend this to all!

Outposts of Hell or Portals to Heaven by Tom Ward

A Must Read!!, January 26, 2006
It is my opinion that Tom Ward's "Outposts of Hell or Portals to Heaven" should be something every Christian reads. This book gives insight into many things that we as Christians have overlooked or became used to in our spiritual walks. "Outposts of Hell or Portals to Heaven" is an eye opener and a true reality check. As I read each page, it made me realize things I myself had seen in the church and ignored or trusted to be true. We as Christians, need to wake up and take a look at who we are, and what God wants us to be. This book is a perfect tool for that spiritual walk, for it makes us more aware of things we tend to just believe because someone of the church told us. We must be the ones to research and understand what we are being taught. Outstanding book and a true must read!
