Turning Blocks Into Bridges

Testimonials From Our 1st Year Campers

Hey Mobley family!

Hopefully I got the right e-mail address lol. This is Dillon Burke from Camp Building Bridges. You know, the tall, red-headed, "annoying" one haha. I was just on the Building Bridges website. I am happy to hear you will be doing the camp again. I am highly interested in coming back for round 2 of Camp BB. It all depends on a couple of things since you say it's in mid-June (school ending, sports). But other than that, I'm pretty sure I can be there. I heard Jessica from the camp was coming back too. And Shay too maybe. Oh boy, isn't next year going to be fun . I miss the camp a lot. It was so fun there. When I got back, I was surprised to see that I had lost 7 lbs. over that week! I have been really good since I have returned. Been going to a few baseball games. Saw some movies. Getting ready for school . This has been one of my best summers, and that camp is one of the main reasons . In other news, my grandmother (the one with alzheimers, and the broken leg) has started moving around on her feet. So her leg is pretty much all healed up. So I'm gonna end this e-mail now, I should be sleeping . I hope everything's well in Missouri. Can't wait to hear back from you guys !

                                                  Your best camper,

                                                                Dillon
P.S. If you could keep me posted of any information I could use for returning to Camp Building Bridges next year, that would be great. Thanks.

I was so fortunate to be asked by Tracey Mobley to be on the planning committee and as a presenter for this new project ‘Camp Building Bridges’. As a social worker and facilitator for an Alzheimer’s support group at a hospital in SWMO, I was excited about having this opportunity to educate this particular population. As a team, we saw ourselves as missionaries going into a new territory to enlighten and engage the participants to understand the "why and how come" of this terrible disease. As these teens live the daily experience with their loved one who has Alzheimer’s they need to know how early stage or early onset affects the family dynamics and what they can do to help themselves to cope and educate others about this disease. They were truly charged up about all the materials that we provided and the "new attitude" towards understanding this disease. The week was a success because they actually became a "sub-family" wanting to share stories and support each other. The best way to describe this project was totally "Mission-Possible" !
