Turning Blocks Into Bridges

                                         Donations

In the fall of 2007 with the request of a caregiver whom is a member on the National Alzheimer's Online Message Forum, The Spare A Dime Campaign was born. The idea was for individuals to find as much change in their homes, cars, etc and save it and give to the camp to help raise money for young teens to attend this respite camp. The project became a very fun project as individuals competed against individuals and states against states. The biggest eye opener of how big of a program this would become was the Alzheimer's Society of Scotland had a car wash and raised over $350.00. All of these complete strangers to one another but not strangers to the world of Alzheimer's or other dementias. There was almost $6000.00 raised by these individuals working together not counting the initial grant that was awarded by the Hille Foundation and got the camp off of the ground.  The real winners were the 10 young teens that had the privilege of attending the first year's camp. They gained knowledge, friendship as well as was given a respite from Alzheimer's.

Our plans for this year is to have at least 24 young teens attend this camp program. With over 250,000 young teens between the ages of 8-18, I don't foresee a problem in finding the families with teens that will benefit from this program.

If you want to help a young teen attend camp through donations, the cost is $600.00 or whatever you can afford.  All funds are tax deductible.  Just keep in mind that by helping just one child attend this camp you may keep them from suffering in silence.
