Body and ConformationA horse's body is perfectly designed for its way of life. The neck is so long that the horse can stoop to graze, and long, muscular legs allow it to run from danger. The proportions of a horse's body, or conformation may vary according to the group or breed. PointsThe external features of a horse are called the points. Each point has a different name and together they make up the horse’s conformation.
Skeleton and MusclesThe framework of the horse consists of a skeleton, made up of a number of connected bones that are moved by muscles. Along the spinal, or vertebral, column, which runs from head to the tail, is the spinal cord-the connection between the horse’s brain and body. When a horse wants to move, it sends a message from its brain down to the cord via nerves to signal the appropriate muscle.
