  Wensleydale & Aysgarth Falls

Wensleydale is the famous Dale, famous of course for Wensleydale cheese, Wallace's (of Wallace & Gromit fame) love of it,  and 'All Creatures Great & Small'.  The main road travelling east across the dales, follows the River Ure as it winds through the valleys, passing through Yorkshire villages and small towns such as Hawes, Aysgarth and Leyburn.

The waterfalls at Aysgarth are famous in themselves, having appeared on TV several times including being featured in 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves' starring Kevin Costner. When we were there, the previous days' rainfall had been quite heavy so the river was full and the falls at almost "full flood".  Close up, the water, as it fell, resembled sticky boiling toffee with its brown syrupy colour and frothy white bits.
