Jo's FAVOURITE PLACES....

The Fastest Growing City

Leeds has been deemed the fastest growing city of the North. There they had the first Harvey Nicks outside London, the DSS relocated there from "down South"  some twenty years ago and it has not one but two universities.

Like any city it has its good and bad parts. However having left the city many times since 2002 - and returned many times again, I cannot believe the number of cranes that can always be seen, towering over the city skyline. Building and development are as big a business in Leeds as the boom that caused my ancestors to move there from rural Norfolk in the late 1880's.

I lived in Bramley for quite a lot of my life and it is where both my parents and sister still live. Bramley Park seems nothing that special,  - a nice green open space, playground, home to Bramley Carnival and Bramley Fun Days as well as the annual bonfire and fireworks display hosted by Leeds City Council.

Take one nice clear day, a stiff breeze, two kites and two young children and the opportunities are endless.....

The views north towards Yeadon - the tree-topped hill hides the Leeds/Bradford Airport runway. In the foreground, the chimney belongs to Bramley Baths, a restored Victorian swimming pool where I learned to swim when I was 7!

With views as good as this five minutes from where I was brought up, is it  a wonder I miss Yorkshire??? In the second picture you can just make out the water tower and radio mast at Cookridge as well as an aeroplane coming into land at Leeds/Bradford Airport.

This couple of photos shows the views on the walk home from Bramley Park to my parents house. The moors up ahead are an extension of Ilkey Moor (bah tat!) and in the valley basin are the River Aire, Leeds & Liverpool Canal, as well as the Rodley Nature Reserve.

A Few Bramley Links

YEADON TARN

Yeadon is at one of the highest places in Leeds and is also the home of Leeds/Bradford International Airport. Next to the runway is a leisure area with incorporates Yeadon Tarn, boating centre and children's playground. This area is a children's favourite when it's duck feeding time and it is a great way to blow out the cobwebs as well as plane watch. This was one of my favourite places to walk around when Laura was in her pram.
