Welcome, one and all, to the first - as far as I know -

fansite, as endorsed by writers Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley themselves.

So, Captain Helix here.

And the news is not good.

Hyperdrive is no more. The BBC have told Kevin and Andy that they don't want a third series - more on that story below.

But, it was good while it lasted - no, it was great while it lasted - and the state the BBC's in at the moment, nothing's safe is it?

There is still the series three petition, which was set up before the definite cancellation of the series. I've made the BBC Controller of Comedy aware of this - there are almost 170 signatures on there now - so please don't give up, it may be that the Beeb's cashflow problems have contributed. Maybe.

Still, the site's not going anywhere. I might even get time to catch up on updating the site. The new 'Live' page is being updated, mostly with Dan Antopolski and Petra Massey's troupe, Spymonkey, gigs, although there are some Dutch Elm Conservatoire (Stephen Evans) and Waen Shepherd (aka Captain Helix) gigs coming up...

The beginnings of the episode guide, with an in-depth synopsis of A Gift From The Glish, Is still there, too. Now that I have the DVDs at my disposal, I'll have a fully functioning pause button, and should have more chance to finish the rest of the series!

There are polls, links, and a Guestbook for your comments, or you could join the forums. The latest news can still be found below, in Updates from StarBase, and all the other gubbins is still here.

What I hoped would be the first of many interviews  - with Miranda Hart (Teal) - is now online on the imaginitively titled Interviews page. I may still have a proper chat to show writers Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley in the not too distant future, but as we have learnt, you can be sure of nothing.

I will try to continue to build up the site into a true juggernaut, but until then, please continue to visit the Official Hyperdrive site, as well as the Camden Lock Forums, and please e-mail me with any suggestions or submissions you may have for the site.

The Cast and crew section has been updated with all the additional series two cast - crew to follow shortly - and the Alien Spotting Gallery is now open - you can add your Alien Spotting Card by e-mailing me.

Remember - Space Force needs you!

Miranda's House Party - posted 30/10/07

Miranda Hart's been in touch to let me know about her new show for Radio 4.

Miranda Hart's House Party is recording on a couple of nights soon, for transmission in January.

The show is a mix of stand-up and sketches based around (wait for it) a house party, and co-stars Kim Wall and Sharon Horgan, as well as a special guest every week.

Recording dates are:

Monday,13th November and Monday, 11th December,  at the Drill Hall, Chenies Street, London W1. Both shows start at 7.30pm.

Miranda will also be trying out new material on Monday, 6th November at the Albany, Great Portland Street, London, at 8pm, so if you can make it, she'll be all too happy to see you.

No More Hyperdrive - posted 20/10/07

This news is actually over a week old, but thiis is, sadly, the first chance I've had to post it here.

The BBC don't want a third series of the show, as revealed to forum members last week by Kevin Cecil:

Sorry everyone but there won't be a third series of Hyperdrive.

The BBC said that they really liked it and that we should be very proud of it but not enough people watched it to warrant making more.

We'd like to thank everyone on this board for their support of the show. We're very pleased that we got to make two series. We really enjoyed doing it.

Sorry.

Kevin

Andy Riley went on to say, "We had a plot arc for series three and everything. The thing is, though the second series did okayish ratings-wise, it didn't break out of the box and head up toward the two million mark - very little does on BBC2 or C4 these days - and they were looking for it to do that. It's an expensive show and has to sing for its supper. I'm sure massive BBC cutbacks announced yesterday, but expected for a while, haven't helped."

On the subject of trying to bring Hyperdrive back, Kevin also said, "I don't know what the public can do other than tell other members of the public that they enjoyed Hyperdrive and should check it out and then the show can grow and maybe we'll be able to bring it back in day in some form."

What form could that be? Andy: "And in the next 12 months some time it would be nice to have a crack at a Captain Helix audio adventure (but no date promises on that one!)"

Cheers guys, for everything.

Cecil and Riley Slack off - posted 10/9/07

Just received an e-mail from Kevin regarding Slacker Cats, which is shown on ABC in America.

He says:

"Just to say that if anyone wants to see the animated series Andy and I created but don't live in America, then you can watch it online for free at:

Each episode is up for a week. At the moment it is Andy's Bodle's and from tomorrow it's Gideon Defoe's.

The show has come under attack from family value groups in America and online views count in some way in the ratings so if you watch that would be much appreciated. Then if it offends you, you can join the campaign against it!

Thaaaanks

Kevin"

Go on then, off you pop.

Miranda stays in - posted 4/9/07

Miranda Hart (Teal) will be appearing as Barbara in the new series of Not Going Out, which begins this Friday, 7th September at 9.30pm on BBC One.

The show will be recording at Teddington Studios on the following nights:
Sunday 9th September
Friday 14th September (Miranda does not appear in this episode)
Friday 21st September
Friday 28th September
Friday 5th October
You can contact the BBC for free tickets on

Miranda would also like it to be known that the Radio Times made a mistake in it's listings - she hasn't changed her name to 'Miranda Hart Hilary'. God knows where that came from.

We want a third series! - posted 4/8/07

Although there is - to the best of my knowledge - no real danger of Hyperdrive not being recommissioned for a third series, you can never be too sure of anything.

I'm not taking any chances, therefore, and have started a petition calling for a third series! An act of avid fandom? Or tragic sadness? You decide.

Slacking off - posted 17/7/07

Kevin Cecil has been in touch to give me a couple of tasty news bites.

He's letting me know of his and Andy's Comic Con Appearance.

Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil will be at Comic Con in San Diego on Friday 27th July. They will be promoting their new animated sitcom Slacker Cats in the ABC Family Channel booth between 3 and 4 pm. They will be signing autographs and chatting to anyone who turns up so come and talk about Hyperdrive or anything else.

He's also asked me to point out that the Wednesday repeat of episode 2 will be on half an hour earlier at the new regular time of 11.20pm - it's the golf that's holding it back this week.

So, if you're in the States, get along and see them!

Series Two update - posted 18/5/07

According to Wikipedia, the airdate for the new series has been confirmed as Thursday, July 12th, at 9.30pm on BBC2.

Meanwhile, play.com are no longer listing a release date or price for the series one DVD, although the twin pack of series one and two is advertised for a release date of August 13th for £23.99.

However, one or both of these dates are subject to change, especially as the second DVD release is due only four weeks after the start of the series.

CAMDEN LOCK EXCLUSIVE!!!

EXCLUSIVE SERIES TWO NEWS!! - posted 14/5/07

Hyperdrive co-writer Kevin Cecil has been in touch to provide me - and, of course, you - with some new series teasers. He told me:

"There's some familiar aliens from series one who come back, we get to meet the Red Shiny Robots of Vortis and there's an episode about a device that allows you to go into people's dreams which is the most 'proper' science fiction thing we've done and which has come out very well. There's lots of character development in the series and some big surprises (which I can't tell you about or they wouldn't be surprises).

"Oh and it all takes place a year later (in 2152) and,"

(This is the REALLY big exclusive, people!)

"we've got a new theme tune!"

Now doesn't that sound exciting?

The new series should be hitting your screens in late June/early July, with the DVD of series one - originally due out early May - now pushed back to July 9th to coincide with series two, which is also due for release the same date. A double pack will be released in August.

Watch this space...

Miranda goes home - posted 8/3/07

Sadly, last night saw Miranda leave the show, singing for survival once again after finishing in the bottom three for the second time.

This time, it just wasn't enough, and Miranda was sent packing by her fellow contestants - shame on them! Looks like there'll be no Christmas number one from Ms Hart this year.

Joking aside - Well done Miranda, we're proud of you!

Miranda does Fame Academy - posted 2/3/07

As you may know, Comic Relief's bi-annual Red Nose Day is coming up - Friday 16th March - and as part of the run-up, BBC1 is screening another series of celebrities singing for survival in Comic Relief does Fame Academy.

Among this year's contestants is our very own Chloe Teal - aka comedy actress Miranda Hart.

I sent Miranda a good luck message, sure that she wouldn't be needing it. However, Miranda told me, 'I am sure I WILL need it. Thank you!'

So remember to watch BBC1 all this week, and get behind Miranda. We're all rooting for you!

Space Commander teams up with Bond and Hitchhiker - posted 2/3/06

Nick Frost (Henderson) will soon start shooting his next film with the creative team behind Shaun of the Dead.

Hot Fuzz has been written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, with Pegg starring and Wright directing, as with the 2004 RomZomCom.

The Press Release from Working Title Films reads, "Police Constable, Nicholas Angel [Simon Pegg] is good at his job, so good in fact, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, his superiors at the Met have decided to sweep him under the carpet. So it is that London's top cop finds himself in the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With garden fetes and neighbourhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation and finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman [Nick Frost], an oafish but well meaning young Constable, who dreams of being Mel Gibson. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realises that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems."

As well as Nick Frost, the cast also includes former James Bond star Timothy Dalton, latter day Arthur Dent, Martin Freeman, and other British stars including Jim Broadbent and Steve Coogan.

Principal photography gets underway later this month.
