Camberley Writers

www.camberleywriters.co.uk is our new address!

July 2009

Next meeting is July 4th!

Peter, the leader of the group before me, has kindly agreed to lead this final session for Camberley Writers, which will be the annual AGM.

Although Camberley Writers will be ending, there will be a smaller new group opening up in September. This smaller and quieter group will be for writers or illustrators working on projects and wanting feedback, encouragement and a quiet, focused environment to work in. It'll be running from 5.30pm until 7pm in Camberley Library and you can drop in any time.

Welcome!

We meet every first Thursday of the month, October to July, at High Cross Church in Camberley, Surrey England.

We are interested in all forms of writing-- for publication, competition, or personal satisfaction. Short stories, poetry, articles, monologues, play-scripts, novels--all this and so much more.

We aim to provide useful feedback and critiquing to writers, and run writing activities to inspire the mind and to battle writing block.

Each meeting runs along the same lines (see exceptions in This Year). We go through what's going on, like competitions both local and nationwide, then we warm up with a writing game and read out our results. Then we take a quick coffee-and-cake break.

We spend the second half of the meeting listening to each other's works and critiquing it in a positive and useful manner. The rule is that we do not tear work to shreds, we make positive suggestions on improvements. Everyone has something to learn from each other.

Our venue has excellent facilities. The room is on the first floor, so has wheelchair access and disabled toilets nextdoor to the room. We have coffee facilities so we can have a drink break each meeting. (There's usually cake too!)

The Visitors fee is £4 per evening. This money goes towards bringing in outside speakers, and hiring the room.
