No two witches do things exactly the same. But, what you read here may sound at least slightly familiar. I tend to use more commonly known correspondences. There is no right or wrong way to practice, as long as you are not hurting another or yourself. The Elements that I work with are Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. I associate each with a compass direction, and place an item on my altar at each side to represent that element. I cast my circles clockwise, starting and ending in the North.
