Special Olympics has been amazing for our family as a whole. In 2005, Austin started participating in bowling and loved it! He made it to Sectionals and Summer Games his very first year and his biggest cheerleader has always been his sister, Calista!
Calista knows how much her brother struggles to do the things most kids can do with ease. She also knows how much he loves being able to go to Special Olympics competitions and how great he feels when he wins an award. She has wanted to become a Special Olympics volunteer ever since Austin started participating. She decided that since she was too young to be a volunteer right now, she would try to help out in another way.
Crawford County Special Olympics was worried about having the funding to continue to take athletes to competitions, so Calista decided her contribution could be to make and sell crafts to benefit the program. During her first sale at the Crawford County Special Olympics Horseshoes for Life Pitch-A-Thon on January 27, 2007, Calista raised $27.00 for the program! She decided it wasn't enough and continued to sell her crafts every chance she got. She added $177.00 to her total to present at the Bowling Awards Party on March 27, 2007 for a combined total of $204.00. She even made and donated 40 bowling frame magnets to be presented as awards at the event.
Calista has continued to make and sell her crafts every chance she gets. She is an amazing little girl who wants to make sure Crawford County Special Olympics athletes are able to continue to attend competitions!
