March 2007
March 30, 2007, it was in the morning I took these pictures. It was a Friday morning at the least. Growth sure is showing and it is a brilliant sight to see! Well here is an overall view looking at the west. My Paul Bunyan Sunflowers are growing pretty good too,
though you cannot really picture them in these photos. My Common Sunflowers are what many show be looking at, since this is really showing rapid growth!! My combo mix has a variety of sunflowers. Three different types with one of each of a total of
eight. I'm also starting to use much of my compost pile soil. It is looking great too. I'm seeing some good soil at the bottom that I'm using all around my Paul Bunyan's. My Paul Bunyans are on the left side of my Common Sunflowers.
Now I wanted to focus on my combo section of my Sunflower Garden. This section currently will hold three different types of Sunflowers. Each of them will hold 8 sunflowers: firstly will be the red section. Here you will be seeing German Sunflowers, these are beautiful since they perfectly create a very light green color in the middle of the sunflower!
Next will be blue, These are my Florida Connection I traded awhile back, They are the burgundy variety, VERY DEEP Purplish reddish...
Additionally, and Finally, the white section is Aztec Gold Sunflowers that grow around 5-6ft tall, but with perfectly shaped heads. I love this type, since it was one of my first sunflowers I was growing when I was around 10 or 11 years of age.
March 24th, 2007 it hit 80 degrees today, but before I took this photo inside my garden it was a cool 50 degrees. I wanted to water my garden, but I thought again. Forecasters are saying we will have a pretty good size storm coming monday afternoon.
Additionally with strong to severe thunderstorms! We will have to wait and see what really happens. I just hope it rains pretty good, enough that soaks the ground well.
As you can see pretty well here, my Common Sunflowers are growing at a alarming rate! The green growth is going strong, but suddenly I am having a horrible problem with earwigs eating my foliage. They are not out during the day, but during the night there are more than 50 bugs all over the place on the top of my plants eating the leaves away! It's more at the back near the white building where they are eating my sunflowers. Over here to the front no bugs have come near here. I soon hope to have my chickens feasting on these darn bugs.
March 14, 2007, The high today was 75 degrees and my Common Sunflowers are defiantly starting to show signs of fast growing! I now know that the race has begun! This is where the strongest sunflower will be fighting for the right of space. I never space out my Common Sunflowers since they are wild and they do this on their own. What they do is, believe it or
not, but fight for the sky high space. Simple as I can put it... It's such an enjoying time to see this, although I'm quiet worried to what may come ahead as it is too warm for this time of the year! Usually we are suppose to be in the mid to upper 60's. Average is now 66 degrees! Yesterday we hit a record high of 84 degrees! So I feel a little worried about the summer ahead!! Not a very good thought! Anyways, this photo here is one that should be looked closely. As you can see here on the left side of this photo I got my Irises starting to show buds. This may be the first year I will be receiving more than 7 blooms!!! I am very happy at the least! As soon as I start seeing life of opening development I will surely post! I think by the weekend there is light ahead. Okay, to the far, far upper right corner, DO YOU SEE GREEN?
Any guesses on what's that?....
Of course your right! It's my Common Sunflowers. I took these photos when the sun was starting to
set now. It was around 6:55pm, I have been watering pretty well now and I know that the water is making a difference! Since I did a comparison of Sunflowers that are not receiving any water and they look a bit smaller and not growing as quickly. I also want to NOTE, that I am using Miracle-Gro to water my plants. I know that the stuff is addictive to plants, so I must keep doing this every 14 days. I do not mind at all though. I am also using Algro-Flash which is some very good stuff that really does work! Well anyways, to close this off. I want you to enjoy these photos of closeups of the sunflowers! It is simply a amazing site!More Photos:

March 8, 2007, The high temperature was 65 degrees. It wasn't that warm today, we are expected some upper 70s by the end of the weekend to next week.
Which I cannot wait for!
Well I wanted to roll back into my garden to see the action that is currently taking shape. It's action that is only seen through spring and it is when all my seeds from the ground start sprouting at a intense rate that even I cannot take hold of! It is pretty amazing to see all these sprouts take shape to tell you the truth it gets better and better every year! I believe that each year I get more and more sunflowers appearing in my garden. I love to see this as it shows that I am taking care of my sunflowers very well! Additionally it adds a pretty site since from far away it looks like grass is growing,
but look closely it's all SUNFLOWER SPROUTS. Here in this green patch is where I allow all my common sunflowers to grow. They are the ones that grow to over 15ft tall and have so many heads. When I took this picture it was already around 5pm in the afternoon and the sun was setting quickly so I took these photos very quick. Also as you can see in the background my chickens are greatly appreciating the green grass growth that is quickly coming up now.
Also if you look very closely, far away at the ends of my garden you can see my daffodils appearing as well... Haven't taken any
photos of them since I feel so interested currently in my sunflower growth that is taking place.
As you can see now I'm facing west, just another AMAZING VIEW to show all!
Enjoy!
March 6, 2007, Today in Stockton we reached 76 degrees! Warmest this year so far! It sure does feel good! I added some Paul Bunyan sunflower seeds in my little homemade bio-dome I created and in three days they sprouted! It was pretty nice to see that the warm sun is doing it's job and quick!! I'm surprised how many of my seedlings are thriving and growing so
quickly!! Well this photo here shows Paul Bunyan sunflowers growing pretty well on the side of my house. Remember, well they are two inches high now and already showing the third set of leaves! There are 9 sunflowers planted in a row here. They receive currently only just around 4-5 hours of sun, but soon they will be getting much more than that! I still haven't got to water these babies yet even though we finally getting some warm weather here. I can't wait to see much more to what may come soon! Hope you enjoy this picture. It is defiantly one of my favorites!
Here is a better view, just a little higher as you can see the small line of sunflowers that will be growing here. Even though they may not get at least 8 hours of sun from the ground as they get taller they get the sun and get much more than 9 hours of sun!.... It's great knowing that there are houses in between. If you watched my journal last
year over at Gardener's Helpers(link on the top left hand corner) then you know what I'm talking about!
Got something to say?
Say it here!
